To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hello, i have a Moto XTS3000 Model II i just recently purchased it off of eBay. The previous owner had 8 conventional RECEIVE ONLY channels programmed into it when i purchased it.

Today i programmed the radio to my frequencies, i have 15 conventional channels programmed into the XTS3000. They all receive just fine. Channels 1-10 are RECEIVE ONLY. Channels 11-15 are Transmit and Receive. Channel 11 is a Repeater Channel, and 12 is Channel 11's Direct frequency, The same with Channel 13 being a Repeater channel and 14 being Channel 13's direct frequency. Channel 15 is a simplex channel only. i do have MDC PTT-ID on the channels as well. When i am on one of the RECEIVE ONLY Channels i push the PTT and it beeps (like normal) On the channels where i have a TX and a RX programmed, i push the PTT and it beeps as well, instead of Transmitting like it should.

(i am a Kenwood guy, i bought this radio for a friend and i have no idea whats wrong, and why it wont transmit)

what should i do?

Thanks in advance!

It sounds like your secure switch is set to the secure position and you don't have an encryption key loaded in your radio.

Try this first:
There is a concentric switch interlaced between the top 16 position channel selector switch, it has a "slash O" and an "O" position on the switch.

This is the secure switch, make sure that the switch is towards the right or the O position and not the O with the slash thru it.

If you don't have a secure key loaded and the secure switch is set to this position it will beep when attempting to transmit.

It could also be an MDC setup issue but i'd need to be on my other PC with CPS on it to check this out.

i have the 2 position switch set to lock the radio's keypad. i have also made sure that all the "secure" features are disabled. i believe all the MDC is set to PTT-ID. I could be wrong, Like i said i am new to Motorola CPS.

It's the Codeplug file, it's what you get when you save the data you read from the radio to your computer.

I noticed my xts 3000 does this sometimes. Try switching the radio to a channel you want to transmit on, turn off the radio then back on and see what it does. Mine sometimes hangs in tx inhibit mode when I switch from a rx only personality to a tx/rx perrsonality.

i opened the codeplug up again, and its all messed up now. i tried reading the radio to the CPS and when i open the Conventional Personalites all the channels i have programed (Receive only and TX and RX) come up as blank and the text is red... and when i click on the RX Frequency, or TX Frequency box to attempt to type in it wont let me type any frequency in. it just gives me a list of frequencies in VHF, UHF, 800, and 900mhz. but i am still receiving transmistions on all of my channels, but i still cant transmit. i have really screwed this up now!!

Thanks for your help everyone.

Sounds like ch11-15 still have the "receive only" checkbox still checked. Check Conventional Personality 11-15 under the General tab and make sure there are not checked.

I saw the CPG, the personalities all look OK and none of the usual suspects that could cause issues like this are present there. What is the firmware version? (Press the button above PTT 5x fast and note the values)

just a quick thought...is the beep your hearing the MDC PTT side tone? it sounds simmiar to the tx inhibit beep but only last a second or so...if your using a MDC ptt ID and you have the side tone turned on the radio will make this beep when you first tx....does the beep presist when you hold down the ptt, or does it only last a second or so....is it one beep or a series of beeps....a detailed description of what your doing and hearing could help identifying the problem.
