Hello. So I'm new to all of this programming radios. Setting it up. I have a ar152 baofeng and it works great. We'll. I wanted something a bit better so I got an xts 5000. And programming it is a *****. Im trying to listen to my police departments frequencies and to be honest. I don't know if I even set it up right. Anyway. My xts5000 won't go below 800mhz. Even tho my xts is both analog and digital (what the person said who i got it from and that person was holoid radios) anyway how come it won't go below 800? Why am I stuck only in the 800 mhz range. The serial number is 721CJM0003. if I someone could help me out and teach me how to program this radio that would be great because YouTube doesn't really help much. My email is brycematthews1545@gmail.com
But if you have discord that would work even better starglaicer#9159

They’re mono band radios so it’s only going to operate in the band it was manufactured with.

Sounds like you needed/wanted a scanner.

I'm more familiar with the later XTS2500 series and they do both 700 and 800. There were some Motorola versions that were sold for some frequency rebanding years ago and they were missing 700MHz, maybe they sold you one of those.

Well. The in the navy we use the xts5000 for basic security. I wanted my own radio. My own xts5000 for my own person use. Will I get a scanner eventually? Probably. But do I also wanna learn this radio? Hell ya I do

I see that now that I'm reading.

Oh, and “analog” and “digital” don’t have anything to do with frequency bands. Those are modes, with there being being kinds of digital modes (P25 in the XTS).

Seeing how the specs you supplied specify it's an 800 MHz radio, I don't see how it can be expected to do any other band.

I believe those were XTS 2500's only.

Actually now. Just programming it for the frequencies. Just enough to get it to work.

These radios are cheap, why not just get a 700/800 version? My XTS2500 cost me about $50 and it was in great shape, here is one that is just a little more.

Here is another even cheaper.

I even see them refurbished with what looks like new cases from Haloid.

The best thing about CPS is the mouseover pop up windows and Help section. It’s fantastic. It helped me with Motorola XTS, XTL, APX radios and Quantar repeaters. I had zero experience with Motorola.

Well, I did have experience with Motorola Spectra and GTX 900 mobiles, but that required incense, a chicken and some DOS hardware. I have an Amateur Radio license and use them for that. For monitoring police I use an inexpensive scanner.
