• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Here is a novice question...

I am considering the purchase of an XTS for personal use. The flashcode (radio as-is now) does not include all of the options I would like. Two parts to question:

1. Can options be added to any given Flashcode, and is there a searchable list of options for the XTS5000?

2. Hwo does one go about adding options to the radio if it is possible

Thanks

There is no searchable list, but you can make a shopping list and ask over at batlabs.com. The knowledge base is very large and they can also give you any known issues.

To add features you need to order them directly via an MSS or an account manager. You have to supply to them the exact model, serial, and current flashcode. Usually with feature upgrades you have to be the original owner of the radio from when it was new. They will not allow you to upgrade a "used" radio such as one from Panter88 on ebay.

XTS5000 radios require a FLASHport upgrade, which is very different than the firmware reflashing you can do for Waris radios. They are difficult to obtain, as they must go through Motorola directly. Large business customers & government departments are given priority over Joe Blow off the street.

Basically, you need to supply Motorola with the model# of your radios, and a list of serial numbers. You have to give them your current flashcode(s) as well & tell them what specific feature(s) you want added.

If you're lucky, they will in turn supply you with a couple of things to do the upgrade. There will be the actual FLASHport data, on a CD, to be installed onto your computer. The CPS will use this data to perform the upgrade. There is a hardware dongle called an "I-button reader", which plugs into the parallel port of the computer (there are also USB versions out now). This dongle allows the CPS to perform a hard-set number of FLASHport upgrades. You can view the amount of upgrades ordered & remaining in the dongle via CPS. You can use either the serial ribless cable, or the USB cable for the upgrade. The USB is much quicker...about 2 minutes vs 5 minutes for the ribless.

A FLASHport upgrade will, to my knowledge, always update the radio to the latest HOST/DSP version available for the feature set (flashcode) you've requested.

Yes that is a correct statement. The latest Host/DSP is located on the supplied CD.

Great guys, thanks. So it seems, although the information you provided is thorough obtaining a radio that is not new pretty much kills my ability to add or change features...

So having said that, here's some questions on the XTS5000 specifically...

In addition to doing P25 conventional, without any added features will it do the following analog ops as well?

1. MDC1200, radio id, call alert, stat msgs, etc.?

2. Text on analog and digital with the packet option (Q947 APCO Packet Data Interface)?

3. Is the ASTRO option (Q806) the same as the IMBE APCO P25 standard?

If the above options aren't standard, what options are these?

Thanks,

Chris
