To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Im having trouble programming my XTS5000. I have CPS 20.01.00 and a serial programming cable and usb to serial adapter. When I try to read the radio I get "Open Radio Failed. Error context: 24. Status: c000039e". Im not able to find what the serial port settings need to be or anything to help me.

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

I guess the first questions is, have you ever programmed this radio, on this computer, with this cable?

You say, "serial programming cable, and USB to serial adapter"....are you running the RIB box? Or is the cable rib-less?

Most "failed to communicate" issues are related to Windows. If you're running an adapter, make sure the drivers are updated. Within the CPS software, under "view", is the "options" menu. Within that menu, are the port selection settings. You can try changing the port there (and use Windows device manager to figure out what port is assigned to your adapter).

Hopefully some of this helps!

Do you have the RKN4105A cable? That is the only one that will work and the ONLY one I would suggest using as you do not want to brick the radio using aftermarket junk. Please let me know which cable you have and I will walk you through the steps.

Thanks

There is your problem right there. This radio will not work with the 3rd party cables. Even thought it looks like a typical HT1000 (Jedi) series cable, it is wired completely different. You will need the RKN4105A Cable, but they are not cheap. I paid 175.00 from M for mine.

I will be happy to post a photo of mine if you cannot find one.

Yes, this cable runs off of USB. How it works is just like a MotoTrbo. When you put the programming cable on the radio, plug in the white USB plug into the PC, turn the radio on and let it set for 15 seconds. The computer will then recognize the radio and once that is done you can read and program it.

Just leave the parameters alone. The cable and computer will be set too each other once the CPS is installed . The cable runs off of USB. Here is a photo:

This cable is for both programming and FW upgrades. Hence why it is not cheap.

That one should be the standard 9600. For the newer radios I have never had to do any adjustments on the parameter settings.

I should also point out that I am quite gung-ho about programming and don't even have a battery for the radio. I've jerry rigged a TRBO battery to power the radio so would that be hurting my cause? I'm getting a true battery on Monday

If the radio is not getting the right amount of voltage, it will sense this and not allow programming. Seems a lot of radios like the MTS2000 for example, an older radio was smart enough to have this feature. This is to avoid bricking the radio in the programming process. So the answer is yes, this can also affect programming as well.

My friend is able to use a Maxton USB ribless cable for his 2500's. The cable is made for Astro 25 radios. Many times the problem is with the serial/USB adapter. Some work, & others do not, depending on which chip is used. But I was able to get the real Moto cable used for $50.

So I got it to work now with at maxton cable. Now the only issue is that I must've programmed in something wrong as after 2 seconds of receiving audio whether I m scanning or not, I get a quick beep. Every time, and its driving me nuts cause I can't find the setting to change to fix it
