If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I currently have my apx7000 vhf/7-800 and xts5000 vhf sitting in front of me. With the 8” vhf helical antenna on the xts it was having a hard time decoding p25 traffic on the edge of it’s range. I swapped out the antenna for the apx vhf/7-800 antenna and it receives noticeably better.

This seems counter intuitive to me that a dual band antenna would work better than a dedicated vhf antenna so I’m wondering what antenna people have had the best luck with on a xts5000 vhf.

Thanks,
Thomas

Many use what you have the long whip vhf/7/800 one. If you mainly use 7/800 a whip 7/800 may work. I believe using the vhf /700 apx antenna on it won't hurt it.

Just be cautious on the xts2500s, 1500s. The sma are common to break off inside and need reflow. I wouldn't recommend that antenna on the 2500s and 1500s.

I have the PMAD4088 and the PMAD4067 and out of the 2 I like the APX (PMAD4067) antenna a lot more. Looks better and performs a tad bit better.

I like the Wideband PMAD4088 Antenna. It seems to pull in the best signal out of all the antennas I’ve used. However, the PMAD4067C Is amazing as well.. If not better. A bit more forgiving on the size as well as it’s not constantly poking you.

That is what I use on my Jedi VHF +1. I think these later antennas are a better design.

PMAD4067 is the MotoTRBO 6000 series antenna, not APX. That model covers 136-147 MHz, so unless you're using the radio exclusively on the 2m band, you'll probably want the PMAD4068, which covers 147-160 MHz. Both models are also GPS capable.

The PMAD4088 is also from the MotoTRBO 6000 series, covering 136-174 MHz (no GPS).

The APX single band VHF antenna is NAR6593, covering 136-174 MHz with GPS capability.
