The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Found the system keys that I needed......
For what ever reason the CPS will not allow me to enter a 700.xxxx as a receive freq. in the 700_800_900 ASTRO 25 Control Channels with out creating an invalid field showing the transmit freq. as being the culprit. I have checked and recheck several times to make sure that something tx has not been activated as this unit has been programmed as a non-affiliated, scan only radio. Added a trunking system and a trunking personality to the existing systems and personalities.
I entered a 800.xxxx freq. the same way with absolutely no issues what so ever.

Thank you for your response...was off the grid, so to speak, for a few days....
I didn't realize that the 700 mgz portion was so picky.
What I am trying to accomplish is to program the CC's and alternates for the state of Kansas COW's (go ahead and insert joke here) Communication On Wheels units...there are 2... a North COW and a South COW that can be taken anywhere in the state and set up in the event of a large disaster or loss of a transmitter site tower.
So did I understand correctly that I change in Zone Channel Assignments the Tx Opt Transmit Dev to 2.5 kHz to achieve what I am after? I have tried numerous times using the drop box but when I try and choose 2.5 it reverts back to 5.0 ....did I miss a step somewhere or do I have to do a whole system and personalities and zone(s) of what I would want to monitor should a COW be placed in service close enough to listen to.

Under the "Trunking System" tab, go into the "Astro Channel ID" tab and add a 700 MHz band plan. You will check the box under "identifier enable". This will open the field up and allow you to edit it. NOTE: Do not change the 800 MHz band plan. All you want to do is add an additional band plan. You will need to know how the systems band plan is set up. ie, bandwidth, TX offsets, channel spacing, and Base frequency. After you've done that, go back into the Astro 25 Control Channels tab and under Channel ID select the channel ID number that corresponds to the band plan number that you added. You should then be able to add your 700 MHz control channels without error.

Confusing naming structure. Traditionally a COW would be Cellular on Wheels. Some WISPs and others have what they call WOWs (Wireless on Wheels). I know some guys who call portable trunking systems TOW's...or Trunking on Wheels

.The settings you are wanting to adjust are located in the Trunking Systems tab. Under ASTRO 25 Channel ID. Looks like this.

Getting closer....made sure that everything was as pictured above.
Of the 5 CC's that I entered 2 showed up in the invalid field. 769.93125 and 769.90625 kept coming up invalid both on the receive and transmit freq. even though all I entered was the receive freq.
770.68125, 773.08125 and 770.65625 has no issues.

Can you post a screenshot of your channel ID page. 8 channel ID's for a band plan is alot. I only have 2 in my XTS 2500. An 800 MHz band plan and a 700 MHz band plan.

If he's clicked on Identifier Enable for the other slots it would be.

I've got a local system that uses 6 and 7 but 1 through 5 are not.

This happens when your "base frequency" is higher than the CC you are trying to enter.

I’ve got a semi-local (Harris) system similar. 1 is the standard 800 MHz band plan, 5 is the 700 MHz band plan. The local Motorola system (which my screenshot was pulled from) has 1 as 800 MHz, 2 as 700 MHz, 3 through 5 as VHF. Unless you had access to a subscriber, you wouldn’t know that info unless you looked at the band plan info given by the control channels.

Keep in mind that some one else programed this...I am just trying to consolidate and get rid of everything that I cant monitor. I would like to have the same band plans as you...one for 800MHz and one for 700MHz

This is system 1......it is different from 2 thru 8

Hosted on Fotki

2 thru 8 look like this

Hosted on Fotki

I want to leave 7 and 8 alone as they contain the 800MHz CC's and alternate that I need to monitor locally.
1 thru 6 are for an area in the South Central part of the state that I cant monitor.

This part has me confused...I don't know if it has anything to do with 700MHz issue that I am having or not.

Hosted on Fotki

Under the ASTRO 25 Site ID there are a couple of systems that I am confused about....
System 7 and System 8 contain the 800MHz CC's for here in Shawnee Co. in North East Ks. yet site ID 42 belongs to Harvey Co. in the South Central part of the state which would make sense for systems 1 thru 6.
I would think that system 7 would be like system 1 and be 01 according to what I read in RR for Shawnee Co. showing the site as being 001. System 8 I think would be 04 for what is shown for Shawnee Co. as part of the Kansas Statewide Interoperable Communication System (KSICS) I dunno???

I have the site ID's for the 700MHz CC's that I have been trying to program...what I would like to do to clean this mess up is to leave system 7 and system 8 alone as they are working fine...delete the system(s) that I don't need and create a new system for 700MHz

It works!!!!!!! Thank you!!!!!

This happens when your "base frequency" is higher than the CC you are trying to enter.
Success.....added a new system AND changed the base frequency to be lower than the lowest CC. Added the 5 CC's that I needed for the COW's.....saved as a new code plug with no issues.
Now the task of rearranging talk groups and zones the way I want.
Again, many thanks

Keep in mind you can't just make up frequencies for the bandplan, they have to match what the system is actually using.

O.K entered in the lowest freq. given for the site, changed the transmit offset sign from - to + and changed the transmit offset to 30.0000 MHz (forgot to change those 2 before) successful save as a code plug in documents!!!!
So it really works this time, nothing showing as invalid.....

So instead of just entering in a freq. that is just below the lowest CC (I had entered 769.0000) I need to inter in the lowest freq. that is given...in this case it would be the CC 769.90625

Nope, the bandplan has to match the one the system uses. You can use Pro96Com or Unitrunker to determine that.

I fear you have no idea what you are doing and will end up having your radio affiliate resulting in it either being inhibited or causing an officer to miss calls due to you pulling his ID off of a site or both. Not trying to be rude, but if you do this wrong you can put authorized users lives in jeopardy.

Too add, site aliases really don't do you anything in a non-affiliate scan setting as the radio will only display the site alias of the site it is registered to and non-affiliate scan doesn't affiliate nor does it register.

Yeah, the confusion comes through loud and clear.

"Lemme try this... or that... or that... Ok, seems to be working right..."

For nearly two decades, we've seen evidence here of poorly programmed radios affiliating on our various PS trunking systems. Seems to be something that will never go away.
