Yaesu: Yaesu 857 deaf on 2m and 70cm

Like the title says I have a 857D that doesn't hear 2m or 70cm FM for crap. TX is immaculate. NOAA comes in xtal clear. Receive tones are off.

I found an old thread here where a guy in Australia, I believe, had the same problem. Narrow banding helped him but in my case it helps some but negligibly.

I don't have any real equipment for testing and I'm not very tech savvy but I'm trying to learn. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Could be an IF filter problem. I had to replace them in one of my FT-857Ds a few years ago. Murata had some issues with those. Same symptoms as you have; no problems after I replaced them. It wasn't a Yaesu issue, but a Murata issue that was found over multiple manufacturers.

Common issue with the IF filters as noted above, change to narrow band and see if your RX comes back.
