Yaesu 991A is connected to laptop using USB cable - am able to communication via programming software.
However, launching Wires-X application, selecting "standard "or "enhanced" port, the Activation page does not read the Transceiver ID.
Therefore, I can't initialize the application software. I presume because the software is not seeing the 991A.
Anyone with some tips or hidden menu options that need to be set?

Did you register your copy of Wires-X? The radio ID is required to do this. Are you simply trying to access the Fusion system with the radio or are you trying ti set up a node? I am not familiar with the 991A but I have registered a couple of copies of Wires-X. There is a menu item which will display the radio ID.

No, I'm trying to activate it on a new laptop. I suspect the PC is not communicating with the 991A via USB. Someone said it does not, which makes no sense to me.

You cannot use the FT-991a with WiRES-X unless you have an HRI-200 and then ONLY in FM.

Are you trying to do something more with it that was not listed?

Reading the marketing literature is not the same as understanding the technical specs. I was hoping the 991A would do as much if not more than my FTM-300 and Wires-x. thanks. thread closed.

The FT-991a is an all mode/all band - shack in the box. The built in Sound Card takes place of the audio routing path that WiRES-X.

In addition, the FT-991a came out with the first generation of Fusion/WiRES-X. This was 5 years prior to the addition of PDN.

A FT-991 cannot be used with a HRI-200 to be a wires-x node, nor was it ever designed to be a node.

It is only a client, and good one for C4FM on 10 meters simplex.

That is NOT correct about the FT-991a and an HRI-200.
The FT-991a has the 6 pin data connector on the back of the radio. The HRI-200 comes with a 6 pin to 10 pin cable AND the FT-991a CAN be used with the HRI-200.

Can it be used as a digital RF node? NO
Can it be used as an Analog RF node? YES

WiRES-X does NOT need to have digital radio to work on the system. This is why it is called WiRES-X as it is a continuation of the WiRES-II concept but the X means that it can cross modulate/cross communicate between analog and digital.

That is incorrect, any 6 pin din to an HRI-200 is a analog node, not digital. You have to have a 10 pin din like the FTM-400 or FTM-100 to have a digital node. This is well known facts

And today, no-one considers Wires-X a Analog mode ; that is a carry over and most rooms today will not allow analog nodes to connect to them due to the bad audio

Please re-read my post reply in the middle:

Can it be used as a digital RF node? NO
Can it be used as an Analog RF node? YES

Many cross mode and FM only user rooms do exist. In monitoring the WiRES-X network and helping people daily with WiRES-X issues I can confirm this fact. In the WiRES-X training classes I have done and will be doing at Huntsville it has already been asked to cover this topic.

Many DO use the FT-991a and the HRI-200 to do HF WiRES-X making 6 and 10 meter links, in FM, for usage. Because it is not done by you or in a room you might use does not mean it is not possible or is not being done.
