I have a Yaesu FT3D with a DV Mega hotspot. I can connect to WIRES rooms, but I have some odd room search issues.
I can type in the room name exactly as it is on the active room list, and it will not find the room in some cases - One Example - Wisconsin-Link room - IT will not find it.
The other issue is I am never able to type in the room id number in the ID search and get to any room. It never finds the room. I notice that often when entering the room ID the hotspot doesn't pick up the transmission from the radio. I tried changing DTMF settings, PTT Delay, etc, and nothing changes. TRied to find a setting in the hotspot but I dont see anything there that might help me solve the issue. Any ideas or suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

1. Wires-X is its own network. Your FT3D, a proper cable(s) and a Windows computer running the Yaesu Wires-X program will allow you to directly connect to a Wires-X node/room that is active. Doing this will resolve your issues...if your handheld is registered on the Wires-X network.

2. Some Wires-X nodes/rooms on the Yaesu Wires-X network can also be connected via a hotspot if the individual Wires-X nodes/rooms are bridged from a reflector. Most are not bridged.

If all you want to do is connect to Wires-X nodes/rooms, you do not need the DV Mega hotspot. Still, you should keep it as it will allow you to connect to rooms not on Wires-X and interact with others that my use a different digital modes.

Thanks for the info. Your 2nd point explains why some will not work. I don't have a working Wires repeater near me. I originally used the hotpot for my DMR radio, and lately WIRES rooms. My handheld was registered recently. Any idea why entering the room ID number, never works? If I do a search ALL I get a large number of rooms to scroll through, If I search by entering all or part of the name I do find some of the ones I am looking for. but entering the ID Number never works, even if I found the room by typing it into the radio in the past.

Thanks again.

One does not need a working Wires repeater near them. See #1. Use this method to connect to the Wires-X network via the Internet through your Windows computer running the Wires-X program. In that program you will see lists of nodes and rooms. You can double click or right click and connect. You can even bookmark nodes/rooms in that program to make it easy to re-connect. (Quit trying to use your DV Mega hotspot when trying to connect to Yaesu nodes/rooms only on the Wires-X network. It will not work.)

Here is what you need, or may already have:

1. Register your FT3DR on the Wires-X network: WIRES-X

2. Login to that linked web page above and download and then install the Wires-X program to your Windows computer.

3.
a. Purchase the SCU-19 interface cables for digital and analog nodes/rooms. Yaesu Interface Cables SCU-39

- or -

b. Purchase a cable from RTSystems for digital nodes/rooms. FT-3D Radio Programming Software | Yaesu Radio Software | Cloning Software

While I have the SCU-39 kit for analog and digital, I typically just connect to digital only nodes/rooms.

My FT3d is registered. I purchased the SCU 19 set of cables - once it gets here I will try this. I have the RT systems programming . Thank you for the lesson in WIRES-X I have been reading up on all this but I guess I haven't been getting it all nailed down in my mind yet. I really appreciate the help!

Your question is slightly confusing. When you use a hotspot the YSF room is programmed into the hotspot. I have not seen a hotspot with a search function. There is only an RF connection between your FT3 and the hotspot simplex.

As Vagrant has tried to explain, using Wires-X, the SCU 19 cable and your FT3 will give you maximum flexibility. Remember that the FT3 is only used as an analog/digital interface. The selection of rooms or nodes is done by the Wires-X software. Then Wires-X settings on the radio are not relevant. The only thing you need to do with the FT3 is to place it in the Portable Digital Node function. I suggest downloading the PDN manual from the Yaesu website.

Once you have this all figured out you will have access to the entire network. Much more versatile than a hotspot.
