Hey everyone;!! I just bought me a new FT60R.
It's my first time ever owning one and would like to know if this radio can be programed by using some sort of software ? and if so does anyone have the link to the web page to obtain this software. and if anyone can give me some pointers to this radio it would be appreciated. Thanks------jason

I've used FT-60 Commander for years, and it's free. It does everything that you'll probably need it to do. It even handles repeater splits (Tx on one band, Rx on another). Don't have a link handy, though, but you can find it easily enough with Google.

I can't think of any real tips on the FT-60, but post if you have ?'s. I would recommend the FBA-25 6 AA cell holder. I use it with rechargeable batteries for a 2nd battery pack.

where would I find the cable at cause all I see is the cable and the software when I look for it haven't seen just the cable Thanks--jason

You can make one:
http://www.botkin.org/dale/yaesu_if.htm
Or buy one (*CT-29A):
http://www.rtsystemsinc.com/othercables_template.cfm?cfid=3394119&cftoken=18805300
*RT Systems sells the cable for $30.00 and
Universal Radio sells the software with cable for $37.00.

I have used the Icom OPC-478 with my VX-6R and VR-500 and,
there are 100's of schematics on the web for these.
I "think" just about any TTL converter would work.
Check e-bay, I've seen them in the $10.00 price range, ex:

There are 1000 memories for storing frequencies (police, fire, ham, whatever).

There are 10 banks. You can vary the number of memory channels in the banks. For example, Bank 1 can have 5 memories, Bank 2 can have 743 memories, and Bank 3 can have 42 memories. Also, 1 memory can exist in more than 1 bank. So memory channel #222 could exist in up to 10 banks at once, memory channel #109 could only exist in Bank 3. It's totally configurable.

Do this for starters:

1. Read p. 28, Memory Storage for programming memory channels.

2. Read p. 29, Memory Recall for learning how to recall memories.

3. Read p. 33 to learn how to program memories to banks, and how to recall banks.

4. Read p. 39, Memory Scanning, to learn how to scan 1 or more banks.

My banks are something like this:

- Ham repeaters Ohio
- Ham repeaters PA
- GMRS
- Public Safety
- Mil Air
- Ham Satellite

...and so on, just like a scanner.

Do you own any other Yaesu ht's? Icom ht's? The programming cables are the same, EXCEPT for those like the VX7 that have a waterproof, screw in plug. This radio does use the stereo to 4 conducter pin adapter.
http://www.kc8unj.com is a great place to get free software. Read the manual. There is a wealth of info on memory and "memory banks". There are 10 banks that you can have multiple frequencies in. The software is the easiest way to do it.

Get the free FT-60 Commander software and get a USB programming cable off ebay for about $25, and its a done deal.

No banks on the FT-60R, just memory channels.

If you have programmed frequencies into different banks, get into memory mode if not there (press V/M),

then
1. hold down BAND,
2. rotate dial to go to the Bank you want,
3. press V/M again.

You can then rotate to see all channels in this Bank, or scan in this bank...
