Has anyone experienced an open squelch problem in the FM mode with the Yaesu Fusion FTM-100DR mobile radio? Regardless of the squelch setting the radio receives un-squelched static. Powering the radio off/on will temporarily correct the problem with the squelch setting on number 2. I understand this is just one of many problems with this new model Yaesu radio...

Just curious, but how close is your radio to your computer? On certain 2 meter frequencies my computer breaks the squelch on my FT2900. Basically, the wireless mouse and keyboard are the culprits. Good luck in finding your problem, it gets exasperating, sometimes.

Two questions:

  1. Have you programmed any System Fusion® repeaters into the radio?
  2. Is the radio in straight FM mode or in AMS (the little flashing bar above the FM on the display?)
If the radio is set for straight FM (NOT in AMS) then any digital System Fusion signals you are receiving are going to be heard as static. It's the same for any analog FM radio that receives digital signals.

Thanks for responding guys. I did go through all the features in case I was over looking something. Unfortunately Yaesu's quality control department leaves much to be desired these days. This is not my first Yaesu radio and quickly verified my unit has some other issues as well. My old Yaesu FT8800's have a much better quality receiver. I would not recommend this model and have returned this unit back to Yaesu for repair.

I've had the FTM-100DR for a couple of months now and have used it in a couple of different vehicles. While there are a couple of things I don't like about it, primarily in the use of APRS, I think it's a fine radio.

Any of the Yaesu System Fusion® radios will have a steeper learning curve than analog FM models, but they can be mastered with a bit of reading and use. It just takes time.

I've had my FTM-100DR since January installed in the car and no problems either. Sometimes you get a bum steer.
