Does that happen in the VFO mode or the memory mode?

You have to set it up as if it were a whole new channel, then save it to a memory location. Set the whole thing up in VFO mode, then save it to the memory channel of your choice.

If you just change the PL tone, it will remain until you change channels; once you change the channel, it will revert back to its original settings, as you have seen! :D

Have you read the manual?

VFO (Variable Frequency Oscillator) is for entering a freq and its working parameters. You can't save anything in the VFO.

Memory is where you "Save" what you entered in the VFO.

Memory is divided into numbered channel slots.

When storing something from the VFO to Memory, you have to select which numbered slot you want that channel placed into.
