Hello,
I'm having an issue with this radio. When I am in single VFO mode (one frequency listed on the display) I hear no audio, even though I know there is activity. If I press the monitor button, I hear activity, but not very well. Lots of static.

If I switch so that 2 frequencies are listed on the display, I hear audio.

Any idea if I have something set incorrectly, or can this be a radio problem?

There are two main things that could cause this. The first being TSQ/DCS. If this is activated you will see TSQ or DCS. To turn this off push "MONF" + 8. Then scroll through the options using the Main and Sub buttons.

The second problem could be your squelch level is too high. To adjust this push MONF + MONI (monitor button). You can then adjust the SQL level using the Main and Sub buttons.

Those options are not showing up. Only -T show up because there is a tone.

I even did a factory reset on the radio.

If I transmit, looks like I am getting out. I can hear on another radio or by pressing monitor button right after transmit, I can barely hear the repeater curtesy tone through the static.

Squelch it's at 2.

You need to go to the "TSQ/DCS/DTMF" part of the menu, go to the first one, and make sure that the squelch type is set to tone and not "Tone sql".

If it makes you feel any better, this seems to be a common problem with the VX-7R. There have been numerous users asking the exact same question very recently. I haven't had the same problem on mine, but the only thing I could think that would be wrong is your tone squelch being turned on.

Have you tried this radio on simplex or only on repeaters. I am wondering what it would do with another radio right next to it.

I have not tried simplex, I'll try that tonight.

I only have Tone on and not Tone SQL. It bothers me that the radio is still doing it after a reset.
