Greetings. I bought a used VX-8R & did the resistor mod. Everything works as it should. Does anyone know, or can link, where I can get another water tight seal for the back of the radio? I can't seem to find anything through google. Does anyone think "Flex Tape" (yeah, the one on TV) won't work?

As I recall the original seal is rigid and thin. I'm not sure the flex tape is thin enough to fit in the room allowed. Expensive too, only needing a postage stamp size piece.

The original specification of submerged to 1m for 30 minutes is aggressive especially if they never go swimming in the shallow end of the pool.

I would be inclined to use something like a piece of packing tape cut to fit. Objective to keep rain and quickly retrieved drops in 3 inches of water out.

Better to minimally cover the hole until you find what you are looking for. Years ago I ordered some replacement clips for a VX6 and I thought I bought them directly from Yaesu. You might try calling them to see if they are available directly.

Good Luck,
Mike

Thank you. I'll give yaesu a call & try packing tape. Never actually seen Flex Tape, so I don't know how thick it is. Thickness is definitely an issue.

If you call the yaesu number and ask for parts department they will be able to get you the replacement . I have a vx5r and needed a new antenna , the original is long since discontinued so i bought the one for the 8 , same specs probably a little better quality.

Vx-5 & vx-8 had TX mod done. Why can VX-5 TX beyond 470 & VX-8 can't?

The resistor mod has always been problematic across VX models and version. My impression is that the earlier models had more flexibility, but with consequences. By the time the VX-8R came around they limited/locked it up in my opinion.

Thx Mike. Either way, not more can be done with my VX-8 after the hardware mod.

Why do you want to transmit outside of ham bands were your lidense is invalid , if caught you voulf lose your license and get an expensive NAL.? There is no valid reason that allows one to break the law !
