At that price, consider using a TV antenna (Yagi type). Winegard and many others make UHF / VHF high band directional TV antennas. Use it with the elements pointing up and down (vertically) rather than horizontally, since what you want to hear in the 700 mHz band is vertically polarized. You'll also need an F to BNC (or F to SMA) adapter to match the TV coax to whatever connector is on your scanner. TV antennas offer good scanning performance for the price and others here on RR have reported directional TV antennas can help resolve simulcast issues. In the move to HD TV a few years ago, the 700 mHz public safety band was carved out of existing TV channel allocations, and that is why TV antennas cover that range quite well. Both indoor and outdoor versions of the antennas are available.
