It's hasn't been a secret for quite some time. Good things take time and it might be about that time.

On who's dime? There's a lot of advantages to doing it over the P25 System. For starters, using the existing infrastructure saves a ton of money.

as long as the tones are not the same as another station and don't end up setting another stations tones off the p25 with there tones because there is alot of that that happens in p25 you can't have stations with the tones to close together or it causes a problem on p25

the county has to find a dealer first is what they are waiting on to get them the right pager for the system they are using and unication is the pagers they are going to need because they do p25 phase 1&2

The vendors have been selected and are currently testing the P25 TONE & VOICE paging on TG 54903. Unication G4 pager will handle the job. P25 paging makes scenes, one pager does it all.. Voice storage, Voice announcement, Computerized Voice and ability to listen to fire ground traffic as well.
GOOD JOB SCOTT !

"Fire Dispatch" now has tones followed by computer generated voice.

The tones are great when scanning because it is less likely to miss the beginning of the voice announcement.

"Voice" quality is not creepy and sounds very human.

Best of all, constant volume without fluctuations.

Listening from another part of the state to one of the feeds it sounded like a commercial structure fire box went out on it this afternoon (I’m assuming it was York). Sounded great. Voice paging is so much better than alpha any day. Glad to see a voice option coming back.

I’m guessing the P25 tones will be new tone pairs that won’t risk conflicting. But the old tone sets are now gone from the wiki so I can’t compare the ones I heard today with the old tone sets.

Analog Tone sets and P25 are totally different both in frequency and how they work

Somewhere buried deep in my hard drive I have a doc that has all of the tone values for a bunch of formats including P25. I was just curious to see if they would’ve converted as many of the old legacy tones to fit the P25 and assign new for any conflicts rather than assign new for everyone.

But either way is great as long as voice paging is back. Now someone get Dauphin on the phone.

Not really. Yes, the window is wider on P25 (even worse with FDMA than TDMA) due to the way the DVSI vocoders normalize the analog tones over digital, but they work exactly the same when it comes down to it. QCII tones go over the air, radio/pager alerts.

Motorola APX CPS has two charts in the help file that shows what each range of analog tone gets normalized to over both FDMA and TDMA. I've posted those charts on these forums at least twice for reference. Yes, some older analog plans will conflict if the tone pairs are too close to each other and fall within a single range/window of normalization, and therefore may have to be tweaked to account for both analog and digital paging.

All new tones across the board. The old tones were tested and most were piercing to listen to therefore this paging system tone plan was built from scratch.
