Having owned all types of scanners since the early 80's, starting with a 4-channel Regency crystal set (which I still have-in mint condition) I would also have to say that the BC-780 is my favorite scanner. Unfortunately it's now a bit dated in regard to PL tones. One of our area fire departments went to UHF and it's PL tone is 206.5 so to monitor them I now have to leave the PL off. Not a big deal though.

I do wish the 780 had the capability to be upgraded for digital. I had the opportunity to use/program both a 785 and a 796 for friends and found I really don't like the displays in either of those newer radios. The 780 display showed the information in a much better format than the newer radios do. I guess once you get familiar with something it's tough to adapt to something different!

My minor gripes aside, the 780 is my all-time favorite scanner. So much so that I bought 2, one for the house and one for the car. Of course now that I'm a ham the mobile 780 has been taken out of the car to make room for my Yaesu 2m/70cm radio. That mobile 780 has joined the base 780 in the radio shack for added monitoring capability, and that's not a bad thing after all. :D

I would have to say the BC780XLT also with the BC898T close behind.

The 780 is one of the most sensitive scanners I have ever used, especially in VHF-Hi. The 898T is a close second. This is compared to the BC895, BC246, PRO-2067, PRO-97, PRO-2055, BC250, BC245, Pro-95 and SC200. Sensitivity is one of the most important factors to me.

I have a lot of problems with intermod and overload on the PRO-2055 and PRO97. So much so that I have to use them with global ATT on. They are basically useless to me on the antenna's I have and in the area I am in.

Pro-96 / Pro-2096 combo.
V-scanners rock!
I'm not sure it is my favorite, but it is most definitely my most useful. It is nice to have files pre-programmed in the V Scanner when traveling. Thanks to the RR Database and Starrsoft it is a breeze to program your scanner in advance. Instead of allocating a bank or two to a specific area, you can set up an entire V-Scanner to the area.
V-Scanners do rock

BCD996T (on order)

This is based on what I know (so far) about the BCD396T and my ownership of a Pro96

I love my Pro96 but it is no 996 :)
