Ive seen quite a few of these for sale lately and the price seems quite cheap. Im curious what others think of this receiver. I dont have any digital stations near me so thats not a problem. How does this receiver compare to the BCT8 for example.

If you dont have to worry about digital, it is a great scanner. I like having the large control knob that can dial in channels or frequencies.

also a line out for audio through computer. I found my last 895xlt on EBAY for 88 dollars shipped.

Functionally, the 890 is good as an older scanner, but it is only
dual-conversion so suffers from image problems. Also, it has a
poor front-end that's susceptible to overload. The 895 is similar,
except triple-converison. Not really recommended unless you can
get one really cheap, and it's in working shape. Mine is doing
disc-tap duty usually with a filter or attenuator full-time to keep
it sane.

If memory serves the 890 doesn't trunk - the 895 does. The front end on the 895 is much better, as Dave noted. The only thing the 895 trunks are Motorola analog systems - it was the first base trunktracker to do so. By the way, it works quite well in the UHF milair range, but because you can't change the mode, it fails in the 138-144 mhz band.
