• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hello everyone, first off i apologize if i'm posting to the wrong section..!

Anyway, to the point..I have a Zastone Z218 VHF/UHF 25-Watt chinese mobile radio which has a small problem but it gets a little bit annoying..it makes some weird sounds when you leave the radio on @ stand-by or when you turn it OFF. Although when i transmit it's fine and doesn't make any weird stuff. Does anyone knows what causes that ? I'm posting below a video i uploaded so you can see by yourself what it does..

I'm thinking that it could be the speaker that causes it..any opinions ?

Thanks in advance..!

Chinese junk. I doubt it is the speaker....they either work or they don't.

^^^ I would have to say that too. Unless you can troubleshoot and repair surface-mount technology (SMT) components yourself, and even then it may not be worth the effort since you will probably never find a service manual for that radio, it definitely would be too costly to send it out for repair; if you could find somebody to repair it to begin with. My suggestion would be to invest in a non-Chinese transceiver such as Alinco, Icom, Kenwood or Yaesu.

I see..well i do have a Kenwood V71 so this little chinese buddy over there is like a backup to me but a very close friend of mine uses the Zastone..and it works perfect there are no issues just that "problem" you can see on the video...otherwise it's good and also NOT deaf it can pickup some low signals too !

Thanks in advance though,

Panoulis.

Panoulis,

The Kenwood V71 is a nice transceiver. As for the Zastone Z218, I see where Amazon here in the States sells that transceiver for $69.99 USD and free shipping. That is why we consider Chinese radios "junk" and not worth repairing.

Your Zastone Z218 sounds like it has some kind of an oscillation going on in the receiver that is being amplified by the audio circuitry. But that is a wild guess and would be impossible to troubleshoot without a service manual that has a schematic of the transceiver. Sorry that we couldn't be of more assistance.

I know the V71 is awesome!! But oh well, i could just buy one more Zastone and when the one i have blows up i can use it for parts and stuff..:D The cost of the repair might even be more than the radio price itself lol.

Anyways thanks again !
