Zetron Dispatch Consoles & Interoperability

Does anybody have any experience with using the Zetron Series 4000 Consoles as the Command & Control for Interoperabity?

1) Console Systems are not "Furniture", nor do they typically (or should they have) radios mounted in them.

2) Interoperability is about "Communications"

That includes the radios, the interconnect systems (consoles or other patching equipment) AND the opperational procedures.

None of the three works alone!

And yse, "Interoperability is the current advertising buzz word in the industry today! :wink:

Remember "Private Line" and "Privacy Plus"? Now we have "True Interoperability" - a trademark of the same corporation. Like PL, True Interoperability is unlikely to do exactly what the expression conjures in the minds of those who will be buying the equipment.

Interoperability is what the client wants it to be. (At least if they use a good consultant)

Government officials who lack any real technical expertise are making the purchasing decisions in many cities. All they know is what the manufacturers say, which is why those of us (taxpayers) who will be footing the bills should be concerned about what they are telling these officials and whether it is accurate or not.

I agree about "doing it" but as N_Jay pointed out, there is a lot of talk happening. Much of the talk is misinformed.

I'm not sure what your point was with that last jab. I am not a security guard. I am a college-level instructor with an M.A. (working on PhD) in Criminal Justice and some expertise in law enforcement technology.

Not sure about the Zetron 4000 / but DFW Communications in Arlington, TX. has a lot of understanding on the Zetron Model 6 and the Motorola console. They may be able to help.
