• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

do you have just the op positions, or did you get the backroom electronics as well? can you post pics of what you have?

i've not sold/worked on a Zetron console before, but if you post up what you have maybe someone here can help you.

um, you need the computers that go with that, the software for the computers, and teh back room cabinet that has all teh boards in it. basically all you have there is the select/unselect speakers and a mic, nothing to tie it in.

unless you get REAL lucky and buy operator computers with the proper version of software already loaded, and the electronics cabinet at a steal, i hope your fund has a few thousand bucks in it. Zetron will not sell you the software license cheaply, and i don't know if they use a hardware key or not. if they use a hard key, you can't even use bootleg software on it.

you will need the correct zetron electronics to mate up with this. it must also match up to the software on the computers, or at least be close to the same revisions.

honestly if you just want a couple small op positions you would be better off to find a used stand alone desktop console such as a Command Star or Command Star lite, everything is in the one module and you just wire it in. software is easier to come by too. any console system that uses audio modules similar to the ones you have will require a lot of back room electronics and unless it is an older Centracom it will cost software licensing too.

What you have is the lower operator position panel for a Series 4000 console. By itself, it will do nothing for you. You will need upper panels (with keys) and, more importantly, you'll need what Zetron calls the CCU (equivalent to Motorola CEB); the CCU contains the system cards, channel cards, OpPos cards, patch cards, and Aux I/O cards, all of which are needed to make the console something that can be connected to radios and made to work.

You can find a good deal of information about the series 4000 on the Zetron web page.

Attached is a photo showing two Operator Positions in a series 4000 console.

The software to program the 4116 is available from Zetron, it runs in DOS under 6.22, the part number is 950-9151, and retails for $175.00.

You will need at least one 4115 expansion panel and at least a 4008 CCU, with channel cards and one console card for each position.

Please be aware this is 1980's equipment, no longer actively supported by Zetron. When you call them about this stuff, they go 'Wow, that's OLD!'

A new 4048 with computer interface and newer cards is what is current, but pricey.

Try eBay for the parts you need. You WILL need manuals.
