Default Erecting Diamond D13OJ

I want to erect a Diamond D130J for my Uniden BCD996XT. I live in centtral Florida but I'm unable to mount it on my roof or bolt it to the side of the house. I have a 6 foot chain link fence with 2.5 inch diameter posts and would like to bolt a 25 to 30 foot mast to the fence post. I would appreciate any suggestions you can give me on the type of mast I could use.

Thanks

You are right to try and get the discone up as high as possible.
Not only will it improve signal levels from distant sites, but it will reduce the amount of noise/interference from electrical appliances in your home (particularly on VHF and AM Air bands).

Just make sure you use good, low loss coax. LMR400 is an excellent choice..

Wind loading of the mast and to a lesser extent, the antenna, will be your biggest challenge.
Can you use three equidistant guy wires on your mast, 3ft or so beneath the discone?
That will stop the whole thing falling over in the first strong wind.

That sounds like a good place to put a antenna. So first off make sure the fence pole is in the ground good, give it a shake and see what happens. If the bottom part of it moves too much (the part below the ground) its not good, if the pole itself shakes but not the bottom part, it is good. Make sure the area above is clear of tree branches and power lines etc. If you get any pole above ten feet it is a good idea to use guy wires. If you can't get LMR-400 try RG8U coax, but I should warn you that it is quite thick. Also make sure the discone parts are all tightened properly before putting it up.

Now you could get a mast from this place.

Or you could go to Home Deopt and get some poles there and make a mast.

Thank you so much for your advice and mentioning the guy wire placement and antenna suggestions. The fence post are securely cemented into the ground so I don't I should have any problems.

Thanks
