MTrunker & ETrunker with Windows XP
Anyone has MTrunker or ETrunker working on Windows XP? If yes, please let me know what are the steps to get the two programs to work.
Thank you.

You aren't going to get them to work well because of the hold Windows has on the serial port. Some folks may get it to work with voodoo but the data rate will be terrible.
It's why all the other programs evolved.

O well, must be the Laptop itself ! Only time I had a problem is when it wants to go into SLEEP Mode [Disabled]
Had thought about setting the DOS mode for Above Normal in the Task manager, but never needed it.

I checked out the Yahoo Trunk group and there are more then one version of Trunker, so what version are you running?

Between UniTrunker and the recent updates to Trunk88, I really don't see the reason to fight with an old DOS program anymore. Both programs support sound card input and are meant to run in Windows. If you're decoding just 3600 baud Motorola systems, Trunk88 is absolutely superb and blows Trunker out of the water information-wise. For multi mode decoding, Unitrunker works dandy. The Trunker and eTrunker programs were fantastic in their day, but like Wayne says the others have evolved and kept up with current OS's. The use of the sound card for decoding is also a superior approach, especially given that new computers often don't even have serial ports.

A nice feature of soundcard decoding is the ability to run multiple decoding apps at the same time.
I'd only use serial now if I had an older dedicated PC for it. But the problem I had is I had no access to the logs unless I exited and then copied them off - typically to a USB stick which required booting in to Windows. So, yeah, moved away from that.

I have used MTrunker under XP but had a lot of problems. The program would all in a sudden stop decoding. I believe if I remember reading correctly it was something to do with the overflow of character going into the serial port and XP not liking it. If you really want to use Trunker or ETrunker then get an old slow laptop and run Win98 but is you don't have access to one or can't get one and use XP then I suggest using Unitrunker or Trunk88.

Even better would be to get an old notebook and run MS-DOS.
That's how I run the older trunker applications.

I am running Etrunker in MS-DOS with my Pentium M Processor and it screams .... runs 24/7 and just never never dies. I have been running it like this for years and really there is no better way. Mind you my version is heavily modified as it does lots of logging / alarms etc and it just keeps running. I would highly recommend it as it will kick the butt of any windows app anyday.
