Lightbulb Get The Old 2-LVL FSK's Working Again.

Gday,

I still run Austrunk 1.4a (Aussie version of the dos trunker) and PDW through serial ports on my computer - This was all fine on a desktop with 2 real comports but when I bought a old laptop it only had 1 com port - easy PCMCIA - RS-232 Adapter WRONG did not work. It has all been laying around for a couple of years and I wanted to get it working - The solution USE EXTERNAL POWER TO THE FSK INTERFACE - it works perfect. I will also try this on a USB-RS232 Adapter cable tomorrow when I have time and post my results. I can also post instructions / schematics if anybody requests them - but all I have done was to use the 2-LVL FSK interface from discriminator.nl modified by replacing the 1M ohm resistor to a 100k (or it would not work on ANYTHING) and supply power via a 9v battery.

Any interface would work with the power mod I guess but I have only tested it with the one mentioned above.

James

An update, All the testing was done under Win 98SE and it failed to work with the USB-RS232 cable and a PCI Serial port card I had laying around. It was also tested using PDW software. I assume the USB-RS232 cable and the PCI Serial card did not work as they were not assigned a IRQ, and the comports all showed as com5 or above. When testing with the PDW software I had to manually assign the Addresss and IRQ's (not possible on usb-rs232 or pci card). The pci card does work under windows xp and pdw (without any mods to the interface), but I have not yet tested the usb cable. This leads me to believe that there may be a problem with some drivers or with limitations on some operating systems.

If anybody has any Ideas for any test's or wants me to test any other software with it let me know and I will do as soon as I can. I have computers over a large range of speeds from the verry slooow to the extreemely fast and operating systems from DOS 6.22, Win95, Win98SE, Win2000 Pro, and Win XP Pro to test on.

James.
