Also, just FYI, I loaded it on a second machine with Windows 2000, and it runs like a champ. No go on my Windows 98 machines, though...

Success!
Using a XP machine at work -- now with a few questions... Are the status messages explained anywhere? I have a Astro W7 on the MPSCS system sitting next to me and when transmissions are received a unit ID pops up on the display - is that part of the hex code?
Can I assume this is part of integration into the T4 program?

It'll be a week or so before I can try it again. Just sent my radio out for the upgrade and to have the volume control looked at since it's a little noisy, and I don't want to have the problem others are having with it.

I as well cannot get it to run on a 98 machine. I did just run it on both my XP and ME machines with success.
Rick, thanks for the update. Now I just have to figure out all this info I am getting and what it all means!

I have it running on a W2K box. works perfectly.
Is there any provision to log what is displayed? and if so, would it be helpfull for designing a Trunker version.. Who would I forward it to?
Thanks again for all of your efforts with this project.
BTW I am monitoring the MPSCS system in the Genesee/Saginaw area. This will be a major hotbed of activity in the coming months.

Put a
> output.txt
at the end of the commandline and it'll save it to a file called output.txt

Chris;
Let me know if the frequencies are being displayed correctly. So far I have yet to see a system advertise an identifier (band plan) of zero.

RE:PRO96dump help again
for this computer, windows ME. So just out of curiosity I hooked the cable back up to the wifes laptop and it works just fine. I then unplugged it and plugged it back into the desktop and ran a check on com 1 and it read just fine, but it will not run the dump program....
**FYI**
I hooked my 780 up to the same com port and used butel's software and uploaded everything so the com port is working.....but not on the pro96 and the dump program!

Windows ME is pretty close to Win98, so I imagine the same thing that is causing it not to work in Win98 is at fault here...

I've read through a few of the Win98/WinME problems in the other thread, and it seems that it might have something to do with the way the app uses the serial port.
Rick- If you're using the standard Windows APIs CreateFile/ReadFile/WriteFile, there are some subtle "tricks" to getting it to work across all versions of the OS. I can supply a C++ class that will do it, if you like.
