Trunking Mode?

Can someone please tell me what mode of trunking are these frequencies in? What mode do i need to setup to listen to these?

This is what I found in the FCC DB and there is nothing to indicate what type of trunking is used, however most private radio communcations co providers go with LTR or one of the
later LTR type trunk systems because they are far cheaper to set up than a SmartNet or SmartZone or EDACS type trunk systems.

Also check to see if you can or can't hear CC noise on one of the freqs.

If you can't it will be an LTR System.
If you can hear CC Noise, depending on what it sounds like, you could figure out if its a MOT or EDACS.

I do not hear anything for CC so must be LTR. When I program them in my 996 in LTR mode it wants Input LCN How do I figure out what those are? Thanks for the help guys! I been around scanners most of my life but new to this trunking. We are just now starting to get a few around here.

Edit: I think I fiured it out on wiki for the LCN you put 01,02 etc right?

Yes - thats the correct method but you have to get the LCN correct for each repeater. Does the RR DB show the correct LCN's for that LTR system? Sometimes the LCN's skip a number ie: 01, 03, 04, 05, 07. If the RR DB does not have info on the system then perhaps someone in your state forum might know more about the LTR system you are trying to program.

Many LTR systems have a sort of strobing signal that opens your squelch very briefly with no sound about every 10 to 40 seconds if you are sitting on the channel manually. Not all LTR channels or all LTR systems do this but if you find this it's a dead giveaway that it's LTR.

See the LTR wiki info and the LTR forum for more. Some radios will tell you the LCN# if you do the right things. (Pro-97 is one) Some guys have wired discriminator output from their radios and use a decoding program to read the strobe signals (excellent solution).

I just mapped and reported 5 systems in that freq range that no one else had reported so you may be the first to work on what you're hearing.

ok I listen to the frequencies one at a time and the first one 856.0125 does open the squelch every few seconds and i hear it CWID. Its the hospital on this frequency and i can hear them talk with out beeing in LTR. I have a 996T that I'm trying to figure this out on.

You only have to be in FM to manually listen to an LTR system. The periodic squelch opening briefly pretty much confirms it to me.

The CWID will give you the licensing info but that doesn't report whether it's LTR or not.

I dunno whether the 996 will help sort LCNs and talkgroups or not. Somebody else can help on that.
