Identity this control channel

Folks,

Here in San Antonio TX we recently had what sounds like a new federal trunked system come on the air. This control channel has rotated between 410.900, 410.700 and one other frequency (can't remember which). It *sounds* like a P25 control channel, however none of the P25 scanners can track it (GRE or Uniden), and Unitrunker doesn't decode it either.

Is it possible this is an encrypted P25 control channel? Some other format?

This might be the test pattern for a new P25 system going up in San Antonio. I wonder if it will be a UHF IWN site?

Keep us posted on this activity, Lindsay. I don't get back to San Antonio very often to check things out - this looks interesting.

As for the federal IWN, the original specs talked about a possibility of UHF sites, the latest information on the system mentions only VHF.

It does sound like the BERT setup used for figuring out propagation.

I thought I read somewhere that IWN was expected to deploy UHF sites for many major metro areas.

I get that same sound on a frequency I have programmed in my scanner.

Lindsay - I do not think there is such a thing yet. Even the pure P25 9600 systems have
analog control channels(at the 9600 speed). I asked about this in the last class I took
from moto and thats what the instructor told me.
