Default squelch

I have a question about the RS Pro-95 squelch. What affect does this have on trunked scanning? I was under the impression with "trunked" the squelch didn't make a difference. But when i turn the squelch all the way up it seems to scan faster but when i turn it down it scans slower but picks up weaker transmissions to where it may not have picked it up with squelch turned up. What would be the best "setting" for scanning trunked frequencies?

Depending on how much you want to hear I would go with the lowest setting to catch as much action as possible hope this helps

The squelch, in a trunked bank, affects the ability to acquire the control channel, just as it affects the ability to pick up a conventional frequency. If you are operating in trunking CC mode only, then the squelch setting has no affect on the voice channel, as the radio is sent to the VC and squelch opened on command based on CC data. See the section on page 56 of your manual for this information.

Now to an inconsistancy in your post, you say it "seems to scan faster", err... how you you know? In a trunking only bank, it is not really scanning at all. If you are mixing conventional and trunking, then obviously you would set the squelch so the conventional frequencies would operate properly (which would affect how it acquires the CC also.)

I just posted a similiar question and saw this at the bottom for searches (love that) , on mine the way I "know" is the rate of the change to banks. With squelch all the way down it's like 5-6 seconds to go through a bank (I have the 2096) and then turning the squelch all the way on 1/2 a second between banks , both banks on mine have at least 30 channels per bank. My question was on CONVENTIONAL TONED channels and squelch....thanks , Tom

p.s. My Post is in Radio Shack Scanners discussion
