I'd like to piggy back on this thread if I might. one of the factors in my old hometown going to a trunked system was that with the old repeater system for each agency, there were dead spots. Also, there was no way for each agency to communicate with each other,without switching to that agencies frequency.And some radio's didn't have all the frequencies for the various agencies.

My new community is all conventional. Well, Kitsap county Washingtons public safety communications are all VHF with Bainbridge island Washingtons being VHF for police and VHF low band for fire/ems
There don't seem to be any dead spots in Kisap county which has mountainous terrain.
It's my understanding that VHF hi band has a better range than 800mhz.
But I still don't understand how Kitsap county Washington, isn't on a trunked system, when they're much larger than my old hometown community.
