A big bold underlined frikkin AMEN TO THAT. The quality of my 32 year old built like a tank scanner still blows away any newer scanner made by any manufacturer. It came from a day when they cared more avout making a quality product than they did about making a quick buck.

There is the possibility that the scanner manufactures can not come up with a work around that doesn't infringe on patents or they just aren't willing to justify the cost or are just plain unable to get the required licensing for the RF tech needed.

Is there a way to power a G5 off a cigarette plug in a car?

Could I add having the ability to import a system from RR or perhaps a csv file into PPS.

The only two changes I would like to see are
1) Encryption muting.
2) Implementation of Phase II (I know, I know...it's said to be coming out at some point; possibly later this year).

Aside from those two things, I personally don't feel anything else needs to change. Being that the Unication devices were never designed to be scanners, I can live without the talkgroup "hold" function and other bells and whistles that Uniden and Whistler offer. My G4 is like a dream come true for monitoring simulcast systems.

What he said - particularly the last line.

Just because it "wasn't designed to be a scanner" doesn't mean very useful features like selectable TG hold time and TG skip/lockout and selectable ENC muting or sound emitted aren't desired.

I love mine too, but I still want product improvements like just about every electronic gadget gets these days.

I think a TG Hold and a TG Delay time setting would be easy enough to do and would LOVE to see this at least!

For P25 trunked systems, a way to add a range of talk group id's.

In my system of interest, patched transmissions occur over a range of tg id's. At any given time when a patched transmission occurs, they can use any of the 150 or so, tg id's, dedicated for this purpose. The pager has a limit on the amount of tg id's it can listen to. If I went ahead and try to program this range, I'd run out of room for other tg id's.

In a scanner, there's no need to program each and every tgid, it will automatically listen to a patched transmission.

Monitor mode won't work for my purposes as MM listens to ALL active tg id's.

A Lockout and a Hold during scan and MM would add tons of usability.

Default What I would like to see

1) More robust audio - audio circuit needs to be of better quality (the fire service is not always quiet)
2) The pager is still missing traffic on our Motorola Type I system , that I can hear clearly on our police radios. 100% copy is key for public safety use
3) Needs a AGC circuit toggle option in menu - many p25 systems do not discern between low and high audio ie; I can hear dispatch loud and mobiles and potables are hard to hear with volume adjusted down.

I forgot to add;

4) audible hiss when receiver opens (first pager in 33 years I have used that has done this)
5) pager sits awkwardly in amplified charger, belt clip does not lock onto charger as designed, intermittent connection with pins.
