As I was reviewing discovery mode hits today, I would keep getting an error, the scanner would shut down, and the screen would say SD card read error? This has never happened before, and I keep it on 24/7!

Any ideas why this is happening all of a sudden?

Thank you

Strange, it works fine with scanning full database ,and all other functions!

Should I try reformatting the sd card first?

Thanks

Sounds like a write error to the sd card not a read problem.
Is it the same card that came with the scanner?
If not I would say get a name brand class 10 sd card and try it.
Cheaper sd cards do not like writing and reading at the same time.

OK... PART OF the card went bad. Happens all the time with hard drives, too.

Could try a reformat.

Ok thank you. This is the card that came with the scanner.
So a class 10, what's the max size recommended?

Max is 32GB I said class 10 because it writes and reads faster than a class 4 the card that came with it should work mayby upman will chime in. I have a Class 10 sandisk 32GB card just have not put it in yet.

Thanks for all of your help!

I'm going to bump it up to a 16gb class 10.

Have a good weekend!

SD card formatting instructions

Reformatting the microSD Card

Reformat microSD cards using a special SD Card Formatter

https://www.sdcard.org/downloads/formatter_4/

Then, you need to “Clear User Data” using Sentinel to restore all HP files and
directories to the card. Cards up to 32GB are supported.

After formatting, the scanner won’t be automatically detected (since it is wiped clean), so you may need to uncheck “Hide empty drives” in windows “Tools>Folder Options>View before doing the "Clear User Data” step.

Ok finally got around to formatting a new 16gb sd card. Everything went smoothly, except all my discovery logs are gone? is that normal? Favorites and most all other settings are still intact.

Thanks!

You can copy them from the old card, then copy them to the new one.

And yes, just to confirm Class 10 32 GB max (although I'm currently trying a 64 GB card with no issues thus far - but no guarantees there won't be yet, so I would not recommend it. BTW, SDFormatter wouldn't work on the 64 GB card.)

I can confirm this is a problem with the BCD536HP.

I have tried 3 or 4 different cards, of various sizes, and encountered this problem with each card. I am going to post a video of the problem, but waiting for my camera battery to charge.

With each card, I have formatted it correctly, cleared user data and immediately began a discovery. Having let it run for an hour or two each time, when you come to play some audio files. the unit light goes out and displays 'SD Card Read Error'.

This is really lazy/bad error handling as the only option from here is to turn the unit off and back on again. Why does the unit shut down and not just refuse to read the file?

Now I have confirmed it is a problem with the scanner and not the cards, I am going to see if I can narrow it down further by changing various settings in the 'Discovery' options and by looking at any corrupted files.

Note: I used HP USB Storage Format Tool to format the Micro SD cards.

I can't seem to find where the format used was specified. Can you help me find that?
