UPMan, can you give us an answer why Uniden will not support LTR Passport systems? This would be a really good thing to have to scan.
This question is for LTR Passport systems only--not all the other things we know we can't get.

You're right. What I should have said is: Is it too early to start a thread thats titled "UASD for the 996XT slated for release Spring 2010 while ProScan, FreeSCAN, ID Tracker II, and ARC XT are all slated for release before the actual 996XT and 15XT units."

A black faceplate? YESSS!
I am waiting for the: "This is a pre-production rendering... actual size and color are subject to change without notice." disclaimer.

this is great news, time to start watching the for sale forums for the old 996Ts like we saw with the 396.

My favorite quote from UPMan (without the emoticons):
"The 7 stages of Dynamic Memory world view conversion (for those familiar with banked scanners) are:
Confusion
Frustration
Anger
The "Aha!" Moment
Understanding
Devotion
Willing Slave "

Yet another question for UPMan
This looks good. I especially like the direct channel access feature (whatever you've named it) and the NAC feature.
One question. Some time back you and I discussed via email an option to lock out certain features. The discussion was more around the pre-programmed systems in the BC15, but it also applied to the search feature in all of the DMA scanners. Public safety systems may want to lock out service search and other similar features as well as the ability of end users to reprogram the scanners. Are any of those on the feature list for these scanners?

Why release an update when they can just release a new line of scanners and have us spend $500 all over again?

Sounds smart to me... seems to be working (based on the popularity/sales of the 396XT).
however do that too often and customers will eventually get fed up and go to another brand.

What ever happen to the payware updates? Did that whole idea just fade away. The new scanners are coming so I guess pyrofallout is correct.
Note: I'll still keep my 996T even if I get a XT.

I am not sure I can name too many scanner or radio companies that continue to add free features (via firmware updates) to products after they are near the end of their production cycle. I was very happy to recently get a firmware update for my BR-330T that added features two years after it was discontinued.

True enough for the 330T and rebanding.. but we were talking about the 996T and paid updates .. it appears Uniden is just releasing new scanners instead of adding features that could possibly be added to the current ones.
Either way I dont mind thats fine, Im very happy with Uniden and continue to buy them..
it was just a general thought out loud. - do it too many times and people will buy elsewhere -

Look at it this way. The release is scheduled around the end of summer 2009, that give us around 4 moths to put aside $100 a month for yet another radio, haha

Bingo.
I just added a Pro-197 to my collection. I have been a Uniden fan and I love their style and design but recent events are making me look at other possible options now.
