BCD396XT Need Help W/ 2 questions!
Number 1: How do you flag the system as private so that it can't be modify or read out of the scanner?
Number 2: How do you set up the forced resume (negative drop out delay feature) on a channel?
Thanks,
Joey

There is Key Lock and Key Safe to prevent accidental changes in programming and functions, but I'm not aware of any feature that permits you to prevent a system from being read or changed.
The negative delay is set on the System level. There is no way that I am aware of to set it on an individual channel.

Isn't the owners manual horse pucky? Almost to the point of being completely useless.
There is a way to prevent other people from changing settings, etc, even reading the radio or certain parts. Dam'd if I know how to do it either!?
Making matters worse, there is no USAD software. Thankfully Freescan supports most features!!!
That being said, the XT is an awesum scanner.

I agree with you 100%. Maybe someone else or Upman can shed some light here and help us out.

I am aware of the key lock and how to use that feature. But one of the new features of the XT was the ability to flag a system so that it can't be read from the scanner or modifyed. I don't see anywhere in the scanner itself to do this or using Freescan. I have looked for the negative delay feature at the system level, group level, etc. I am still not finding it anywhere. Also I have been looking thru the owners manual and I can't find where it mentions either feature. The owners manual by the way in my opinion leaves a lot to be desired!! But in all I think this is an awesome radio - just trying to learn how to use it!!

If the "PRIVATE" flag is set when you write the system to the scanner, then it cannot be read out or viewed/modified in MENU mode. There is no keypad method for setting the private flag, it must be implemented in the PC application writing the system to the scanner.

Searching for the word "private" in the BCD396XT_Complete_Reference yields one hit which is
[MOT System]
MOT,<cmd>,<prv>,<id>
<cmd> = command or LCN (Hex 3 digits, 10 bits)
<prv> = private bit (1 bit)
<id> = ID (Hex 4 digit, 16 bits)
which doesn't seem to be referring to that feature, but it's hard to say for sure.
The Wiki didn't refer to it at all as far as I can tell in any of the 5 hits on the word "private".
I don't see a setting for it in Freescan or Proscan.
I guess it's a private feature.

In Freescan you can set the delay on the System page. The drop down menu has negative values for the negative delay.

In the protocol, the parameter is referred to as "PROTECT."

Oh, yes, I see it clearly now. Actually, I don't see a listing for <COMMAND PROTECT> among the commands, but I do see that:
"When the system protect bit is ON, except . . . , other parameters will be send (sic) as a reserve parameter in the Radio -> Controller command. This command is only acceptable in Programming Mode."
Then when I try to find out what a reserve parameter is, I'm told that:
"[RSV] : Reserve Parameter * This is always only “,”."
except apparently when:
"[RSV] : Reserve Parameter * This is always only “0”."
I guess I just don't read so good, huh?

The CSY command inlcudes PROTECT as a PC --> Scanner parameter.
The SIN command includes PROTECT as both a PC --> Scanner and a Scanner --> PC parameter.

O.K. I am in Freescan. I see how to set the negative channel delay. I am still lost as far as setting the system as private.

I don't think that particular parameter is included in the latest version. However, I can add this to the to do list for the next version.

Okay, you win, but it sure isn't easy for those of us that don't know the answer to find the answer, which is my point.
BTW, I assume that you mean "PROTECT" rather than "PRIVATE" as the parameter.

Programming 396 with 996 File??
I'm not sure where to post this question about the 396 so I post it here and see what happens...
can I program my 396 with a template already done for my 996 using the ARC software? When I try to access a 996 saved file using the 396 software...the software doesn't load the 996 saved file.
