Did you know? The 996 can decrypt!
Okay, the title of this thread is mis-leading. But I had to share an experience I encountered on a CB forum. Someone posted a thread asking about scanners being able decrypt systems using encryption. I and a few others told him that there were no scanners capable of doing that because it is illegal.
Then, one guy posted and said that it might be illegal but that's never stopped anyone from violating the FCC rules before. He even went on to say, "Who do you think makes the radios? The same people who make the scanners!"
I told him he was wrong, but, by all means, post a link to such a scanner because I and other people I know would love to have one. He attacked me and told me I was an Adam Henry for calling him a liar. Here's the funny part - he then stated he had a Uniden 996 scanner capable of doing APCO-25 systems that he used to listen to the MARC system in Ohio all the time and if I didn't believe him, I should look it up and then go do a sexual act to myself.
I told him that he was confusing APCO-25 digital audio with encryption. While both use digital technology, they are two different things. He then stated, again, that his 996 was able to decrypt and pouted that he wasn't going to ever post on the forum again.
So, apparently, Uniden made a scanner capable of decrypting but didn't tell us and this guy in Ohio was the only one to figure it out.
