Yes, that's the way it goes. It's been Uniden's marketing "style" for some time. BC235XLT -> BC245XLT ; BC250D - > BC296D (BC785D -> BC796D) ; BCD396T -> BCD396XT (BCD996T -> soon to be BCD996XT).
Each new version of succession in the same family normally has a couple of main new features to generate the desire. The 235 was the very first trunk tracker, but after many people went out and bought that first trunk tracker, you had to get the 245 to trunk and scan at the same time. The 250 did 3600 baud APCO control channels, but you had to get the 296 to do 9600 baud APCO control channels. The 396XT has many features over the 396T, but I would say that the biggest difference is the multi-site trunking. All, just
my opinion.
Edit: Just another one of my opinions (we all have one), but I am still suspicious of how the "XT" was announced after Uniden got most x96 users to register for firmware updates while announcing "for-pay-upgrades".
