BC-RH96 discontinued ?
Anybody know if Uniden plans to return the BC-RH96 for BCD996XT.
Would be nice if they followed some ham radio designs that have the remote head built into the unit.
Anybody know of a vendor that still has some in stock?

There is like 4 or 5 threads on this . It is discontinued. No plans of comming out with a new one. It wasn't making any money for them. It cost more to make than the profit margin selling.

There is a firmware update that must be performed for it to work with the XT, but yes it does.

One flaw I found with the remote head.... I thought it would allow you to mount the expensive radio in the trunk (996XT) or some other hidden spot for the 396XT... but it lacked one problem... No audio output or control. Why would Uniden go to the trouble of building a "remote head" for thier high end scanners that had no audio capability? In order to have an external speaker next to the remote head, you jave to run a separate audio cable from where ever you've mounted the actual radio. From what I was told you also cant adjust the audio level from the RH. So whats the point. Perhaps that why they didnt sell. If a rep from Uniden reads this, perhaps a version 2 RH would have a built in audio amp and speaker out jack as well as the ability to control the volume level. Just a thought

It does control the audio at least for the scanner that I have seen it used with.

Yes, I believe it does control the audio of the connected scanner, but it uses the scanners speaker, so if you have the scanner mounted in the trunk or in the glove box, that not going to help. I was hoping for something like my spectra that I have mounted in the trunk, but the control head is up on the dash and has audio output from the remote head. I know.... It's just a scanner :-)

The RH96 works with the T's and XT's! Here is the link to the Wiki...

One other note! There is an audio jack on the RH96. The speaker plugs into the head and not the scanner and is controlled from there.

Actually that is not a speaker jack, they just reused some parts from the mobile scanners the "jack" location is plugged, there is no jack.
If you put the scanner in the trunk and use an RH-96 you need to run a remote speaker. The RH-96 volume control does control the radio volume, either with the speaker on the radio or one plugged into the RADIO's external speaker jack.
I have 3 in my vehicle and they work fine in this mode.

I would like to see Uniden come out with a remote head that (1) you can turn the radio on/off from the remote head and (2) you can change to any of the new display colors on the 396/996 XT and (3) at a reasonable price!

I stand corrected! I never paid that much attention to the diagram detail to realize that the phono plug on the RH was for the control cable and not a audio connection.
