Question No More Fire Tones

Yes, it's me again. Ok, this has to do with scanning my local fire frequencies (City of San Mateo, California). I downloaded the frequencies from RR and uploaded them to my BCD396XT. I hear the transmissions fine, but why don't I hear the QuickCall 'ring down' tones. I listened to the same frequencies on my AOR 8000 and I hear the QCII tones. What would cause the Uniden to block the QCII tones?

While I'm here, how do I get the BCD396XT to show me the QCII tones so I can program them into the radio?

Thank You

I'm not familiar with the system out there, but it sounds from your description like they transmit the QCII without a PL (CSQ), while the voice is transmitted with a PL. If you have the PL programmed and enabled for those frequencies, the scanner will not unmute until it detects the proper PL, so if the tones are sent "in the clear", you won't hear them. The only thing you can do is disable or remove the PL on those frequencies if you're dead set on hearing the tones.

Talking

Menu -> Tone out for... -> tone-out setup -> tone-out 1
enter the frequency then enter the tones if you have them
Menu -> menu -> menu Tone-out standby -> tone-out 1
The display will say tone out Standby if you entered tones or Search if you did not enter tones.
In search mode have a pin & paper available to write down the tones that come across the scanner. In my area the FD uses a pre tone 1004 Hz so I just set that as the A tone and the radio goes off on every call.

Set the delay time to infinite. It will hold the tone when one is used. It is also a good setting to use once you have the station tones. When it goes off it will stay open and you will hear the call.

The first two replies aren't addressing your main issue - those tell you how to find your tones. I'd try the first one, that looks like your culprit.

When you use the Fire Tone-Out you can not use a PL with it. I wish we had the choice of being able to use a PL with Fire Tone-Out.
