Default BCD396T Tone-out Search

Hi All,

I have a simple question that maybe someone could answer?

I have successfully programmed "tone-out" search for my 996T and 996XT with both working very well, tone "a" & "b" marked 0.0 for the tone set however, I can not figure out how to search on a designated frequency with the 396T. I followed the same format with the 996T and 996XT without any luck. In addition, I have the currect frequency assignment listed and set for the 396T and the 0.0 marked for tones, the display reads "tone-out standby" as apposed to the 996T and 996XT reading "tone-out search"

If someone knows how to do this I would greatly appreciate any input. Have a great day!

Thanks,
JM317

The 396T is not capable of FTO Search. As far as I know, neither is the 996T.

Neither the 396T nor the 996T support Tone Out Search, this feature was introduced on the 4 XT series scanners (396XT, 346XT, 996XT and the BCT15X).

If you program both the A and B tones as 0.0 on the older scanners (396T, 996T, BCT15 or BC330) the radio should say "Tone Out Standby" but not open and display the tones like the XT radios will.

Are you sure your BCD996T actually works in a Tone Out Search Mode? I have several and they don't.

You can do this with software and any scanner, you don't necessarily need a XT to do it - here's a wiki article that talks about it a little - there's software links at the bottom...

As mentioned above - the T doesn't have FTO search.

You all are correct, I thought the 996T was in "search" mode but it was standby. Sorry for the confusion and thanks for your help!
