Default Battery Level Observation on the 396XT

I purchased this scanner this summer and began to fool with programing my Illinois Starcom21 systems in. I have been monitoring my local District 5 area system and for a while I was getting dropped transmissions, garble during transmissions and a lot of annoying bugs, but recently I noticed a screen display that has the following items...

Next to the Signal Bars..
- Battery Level
-----------------------
Below the Modulation
- ERR:_ _ _
- 0-20 AUTO
Below the above...
-T 1._ _ 1._ _ 1._ _

To get to this display I press in the following order:
(Function+ Push Down on Scroll+ Function Again+ Down Again on Scroll)

I plugged in my scanner to the A/C adapter and my Battery Level went from 3.60 to 3.70.
Progressively the Battery level went up and the quality of the transmissions Improved as well as the Battery Level went up. Once I hit 3.90 the P25 transmissions came in crystal clear.

Also from looking at this screen the ERR Ideally should be below 20 or the transmissions will be 10-1 as well.

So I'm no radio engineer but I would say from my observation If your battery Level is below 3.90 your P25 will be 10-1.

That's pretty weird.... my batteries "die" when the level hits 3.50.

And trunking performance doesn't drop at all, it just shuts off.
