Difference between BCD396XT and BCD996XT
I know that the 396XT is portable and the 996XT is mobile.
What I really want to know is are there any functions like temp lockout, color display, or anything like that?
I'm also guessing the 396 has a smaller speaker so can you still hear it in the car while driving.
What about the display is it smaller on the 396 or do they use the same display
please let me know anything you can think of.
Thanks

BCD996T has two serial ports (front and rear), slightly different controls (more knobs), upside-down display mode, and record output with associated settings in the menu.

I am happy that Uniden has now consolidated the file formats so that those of us with multiple radios of the same family can share files among them easily.

No doubt so is UpMan!

Is the display the same size?

No. Mobile display is larger.

?? Since there's no UASD available for these, I don't see how these file formats are 'consolidated'? Non-existent perhaps, but not consolidated.

I took it to mean that the feature set was essentially the same (with minor platform variations) between models. The "X" models are all the same generation, where the models they replaced were all of differing generations (thus had varying degrees of basic compatibility).
BC246T: DMA Gen 1
BCD396T / BR330T: DMA Gen 2 (added 2-digit quick keys and other features)
BCT15 / BCD996XT: DMA Gen 3 (added multisite plus other features)
BC346XT / BCT15X / BCD396XT / BCD996XT: DMA Gen 4
The engineers are all glad to be on the same "core" now, too, as the upcoming firmware update was much easier to develop and test. Still in final testing, though, so we're not quite ready to talk about what specific improvements are going to roll out.

None have been announced, preannounced, nor hinted at.

It has made life easier for users of ARC or other applications though. I use ARC-XT for all 4 of the current radios and it is easy to share files among them.

Thanks, yup, I am painfully aware of the silence on the subject. Just hoping something was on the horizon.

There "probably" is something in *secret* discussion / brainstorming phase now.. but actual scanner would be 3+ years away

I was just having some fun.
I use UASD for all of my radios (246, 330, 396T and 996T). For the most part, I copy the uasd files across all programs. The areas of concern...
1. copying files 'to' 996T and overwriting the multisite.
2. copying files to 246 and making sure I don't waste memory with out of range frequencies.
3. copying files from 330 and making sure I don't have out of range frequencies.

I think we discussed this before but Freescan will handle all of the above with no issues. You can import UASD files into Freescan and write them to any of the above radios.
Freescan will "massage" the data to work with the radio.
I use it daily to transfer memory files between my older 246t->396XT->996XT.
Hope this helps!

Not exactly true... since the GPS data for conventional systems is stored at the group level on the XT, and at the system level on the T, it is lost in the translation.
