Default bcd396xt usb-1 device

My laptop does not have a serial pot so I got the usb-1 cord.
The laptop will not recognize the connection. I have tried all the different
rates but nothing helps. I am using XP. What can I do?

When you plug in the USB-1, if the drivers are installed properly the cable will be assigned to a COM port. To verify, click the START menu on your XP desktop, then click Control Panel, System, the Hardware tab, then the Device Manager button.

The cable will show up under "Ports (COM & LPT)". Make sure the port assigned to the cable is the one you selected in your software.

If it doesn't show up there, then the driver isn't installed.

Unhappy bcd396xt usb-1 device

Yes the cable shows up on com5. But when I try to connect nothing is detected.
I have tried different com ports with no luck.
How can I be sure I have the correct driver for the bcd396xt?

There is no driver for the scanner. The driver is solely for the converter cable.

What software are you using?

One other possibility... if you plugged in the cable before you installed the software, it won't recognize the cable. If so, you will have to un-install the software and start over.

The reference to the comm port is not on your scanner, you need to check that your SOFTWARE and WINDOWS (ie Device Manager) are set to the same port.

Yes the com port and software are set the same. I have tried all com ports with no results.
ARC_XT comes up with the message "No BCE396XT detected."

This sounds like the most likely scenario to me then. Did you try, uninstall the USB adapter, restart the computer (with the adapter unplugged), reinstall the driver, restart the computer again, and then plug in the adapter.
