Default XT Firmware Update

This will probably be a sticky soon, but just received an e-mail stating a firmware upgrade will be coming in next couple weeks for all the XT versions(15XT, 346XT, 396XT,996XT) of the scanners. The excitement appears over the fact that radio ID's will now be a displayed. This is obviously an attempt to go after the latest GRE versions, which have this. I've been informed that GRE also had the Trunking System Priority on their latest scanners, which I thought that Uniden was the first. It appears to me, that Uniden must be disassembling the GRE scanners in the lab, to see what makes these things tick...lol.
Pardon my lack of excitement over the radio ID issue. I'd rather see improved decoding performance for simulcast systems, which has been on my wish list since the 996T, was this possibly addressed? I don't think any beta testers are allowed to comment publicly?

Why? You usually get more features and bug fixes. I'd day that's worth a 1/2hr or less of your time.

Yep. I guess the firmware update can be made available to everyone but mrkelso since he does not like doing them

Just kiddin' but count your blessings...at least both companies (GRE & Uniden) are listening to the customers and trying to provide additional features. And the firmware updates are free. Which means you get new features for free. Can't beat that.

"This will probably be a sticky soon, but just received an e-mail stating a firmware upgrade will be coming in weeks" Pardon me for asking, but who sent you the E mail? Do you think they've got inside info, or what?

I sure hope they have inside info considering the email came straight from Uniden

You can subscribe to UPMan's "What's New at Uniden" Page and receive email with what is published on the site.
Basically the same as when you subscribe to a thread here at RR.co.

Has anyone taken a close look at Upman's avatar lately? It's got something that appears to be written that might hint at whats coming up.

I think the "J" is a bit cut off, it might be another letter.

Thanks Marshall for posting the update. I got two private messages plus this on the board. It felt like it was some top secret I divulged. Maybe i'm on top of the e-mail list and Upman sends it to me first...)

I know this is for the XT line of scanners Rdale. I'm asking will the T line of scanners get the same firmware update in the future. I think this feature the unit id was requested before the XT line of scanners where release, I meant be wrong. The XT is on the second firmware update and it was just release this year according to the Wiki Page. Can the Unit ID feature update be done to the T line of scanners via firmware update. This update will not fix an issue with the XT line of scanners it is to add a new feature to the scanner. Am I right?

I do understand the desire to have the same updates applied to the previous "T" line of radios but I don't think you will see that happen...GRE/Radio Shack is not providing updates to the Pro 96 even though they are providing updates to the Pro 106 and others...it is just an intelligent business decision to concentrate on the current release of radios...
