346xt question
Guys, I feel like an idiot posting this, but somehow I have turned my groups off in scan mode. And now I cant even find the manual I printed off. I suspect my wife has been "re-arranging"! I have one system, with 5 groups. System is on, but groups are not. I have tried every combo of keys I can think of. The groups are not locked out------any ideas? Thanks, Mike

with the System turned on does the scanner show GRP 12345 ( groups on)
or does it show GRP * * * * * ( groups turned off)
To turn them back on hit function then the group number you want to turn on.
IF this doesn't work turn scanner off then back on , have had that happen already too.
Hope this helps,
- TOM -

Tom, actually it just shows, GRP-------------------------. I thought it was function, then the group number as you suggested, tried that and nothing. Off and on, nothing. The groups are still there in the menu under the system, and not locked out or anything strange that way. I thought I had lost my mind,I am totally stumped. Thanks for the reply and suggestions though, Mike

Very interesting problem.
Are you using software to program your radio? If you groups are still there then "------" means you no longer have quick keys assignd to your groups. Download manual online from uniden. Assign quick key to each group. And ***** hopefully will return. Then you can turn them on and off with Function + # key. Download freescan and when you assign quick keys in software and upload it to your radio MAKE SURE YOU SAVE CHANGES TO THE HARD DRIVE! If you assigned quick keys in software and uploaded it to you scanner and forgot to save the file then next software session upload would unassign them since they were not assigned in the file you uploaded. BECAUSE THE FILE CHANGE AS NOT SAVED. Hope this helps. I know of no published key function that would unassign all quick keys to groups. But tnat doesn't mean it's not possible. I've seen some key functions in firmare that are not documented. Sometimes they were put in for diagnostic reaasons and not taken out. I think onece you re assign your groups with quick keys the problem be solved. If it happens again try to remember exactly what you did before they disappeared.

Kennrth, It actually still shows the quick keys (in the menu) that I had assigned to each of them. I had 5 quick keys assigned to each group (1-5) tied to my one local system . It worked great for several months, then one day I couldnt get them to come back on, thats the strange part. I havent done anything different. I was really trying to just get a good hands on feel for everything (purchased the 346 at the end of May), before I used any software. So everything I have ,has been programmed by hand. I guess I need to just try out Freescan. I am at a total loss. Everything else works fine. Mike

The display you show (all dashes) means that there are no groups in that system with any assigned GQK. So, I suspect you have gotten two versions of the system into your scanner and the one you think you are seeing isn't the one you are actually seeing.

Thanks for the reply UPMan. I will have to go through the menu again, and see where I must have messed up. Is there a quick way to just make a group a system of its own? Mike

Not by hand. Using one of the PC programs you can probably cut/paste (or maybe even drag and drop).

I am fairly sure all you need to do is press hold, us the scroll to go to the desired system, it -should- show the *s in groups. Now, press func and enable the groups. If this does not fix it, something is wrong with your programming.

dracer777, It must be in my programming. Like I said, I can go into the menu and it shows each group has a QK, they are not locked out, and they are assigned to my 1 system. The screen shows like there is nothing there just lines -------------------- for the groups. I will just keep trying thanks for all the help and suggestions. Mike

If you want, go get freescan and send me the save file
@ trdcompetition@yahoo.com
And ill look at it. Or you can post it and a few others will probably fix it.
You may want to look into the wiki written specifically for "nothing to scan", when i first got my 396xt, i had the same exact problem and that wiki helped me.

darcer777, Thank you for that offer. I checked the wiki as you suggested, and think I have it figured out. At one time I disabled all my groups (they were all conventional). Following the instructions, I think I am back in business! So thank you very much, Mike

kudos to dracer for his offer of assistance!
And big kudos to Haley due to working through his issue on his own! I can tell you don't give up and you will get it...just give it time and soon you will be a "Trunking guru". Glad you are back in business!
Happy Monitoring

How did you disable the groups? Did you set the start up keys.

Kennrth, at some point I dis-abled my groups. I had quick keys assigned to them, and it showed in the menu. So thanks to dracer777 for pointing me to the WIKI called nothing to scan, if you go halfway down the page, it says to not disable all groups if they are conventional (which mine were). So I had to do a combo of keys on the 346 go back in and re-enable them, which is apparently something different then just shutting them off/on. For whatever reason after following the instructions it worked.
Marshall, thanks I try! I usually have RS trunking scanners (still use a 96 and 92B), but my 246t, and the 346XT are a WHOLE different ballgame! Dont get me wrong though as far as I am concerned the 346xt is far and away the best analog scanner out there. Mike
