Cool! Looking forward to seeing it. When you got yours, we weren't even sure they would be available anymore.
The price on the one I just bought was $10 more than the last sale price that I passed along to you, but after fiddling with the tiny display on my 396, I'll gladly pay anything for a remote head!

I didn't have the 396 when I sold the control head before. So now I have TWO radios that it works with.

I like to monitor Cal Highway Patrol when I drive, and since I'm in Southern Cal, it means switching the channel frequently as I pass from one jurisdiction to another. It helps to be able to read the alpha tag while driving. I might put it on the dash on one of those bean bag mounts.

I apologize for reviving an old thread, but is this still true? Scanner Master shows them in stock. I plan to buy as many as 6 of these and some BCD996XT's and BCT15X's. But if they are going to be discontinued then I literally need to buy a different vehicle.. one with a column shifter. I am planning to mount 4 or more on my headliner where the sun visors are since virtually zero vehicles nowadays come with a column shifter and have a floor shifter.

We've seen the RH96 come and go under veil of discontinuity rumour several times. It seems that the only safe bet is to buy when you can get your hands on them, if you really need them.

I bought a BCD996XT and a BCT15X at the same time, not reallizing that the 15X's screen was red only, whereas the 996XT could be configured to many different colors. Had I known this I would have just gotten another 996XT instead of the 15X. When I found out that the RH96's screen was the same or similar to the 15X, I lost interest in it.

That was going to be my next question, about the RH96 backlight color. So it's always orange and can't be changed? I was planning to have 2 heads showing red for fire dispatches, 1 showing yellow/red for chp/fire, 2 more showing blue for law enforcement, etc. My entire decision to switch to Uniden from Radio Shack was the backlight color. If the RH96 and the BCT15X don't allow for custom backlight colors, then I'm better off saving 50% and getting more Pro-197's.

That is correct, the RH96 does NOT have configurable backlight colors, it is always the orange.

The backlight colors are not as useful as you would think. Red and blue backlighting is very difficult to see text on.
