Smile Uniden 396T Silkscreen repair time

Just thought I would pass this along:

October 3 - Unit shipped to Uniden
October 5 - Unit received by Uniden
October 7 - Unit sent out unit by FedEx per Uniden email.
October 11 - Unit to be received by me (per FedEx website).

Not bad I don't think! I hesitated because of some of the stories on this site and had planned for at least a one month downtime.

It's here, it's here. It's been gone so long I have to go back to the manual to learn how to use it again.

August 29 until October 11 not bad for a 5 day fix

1 - Attach Scanner to Computer
2 - Open UASD program
3 - Select Configuration Name
4 - Click on Write to Scanner

I could not imagine having to program it without the Computer!!

I sure hope that I have the same luck with the quick turnaround for the silkscreen issue. Mine gets shipped off tomorrow for faceplate replacement. A quick question though.... I have read that Uniden is replacing the speakers in the units as well. Should I expect this to be done to my unit also since it will be there, or should I just expect the faceplate to be replaced?

I haven't had time to play with it yet, but I noticed on the shipping ticket that two parts were replaced. Maybe the speaker and the face plate???? Battery cover looks the same.

I will play with it tonight and see if it sounds better.

I have no way to be scientific about it, but it does seem that it is cleaner sounding and louder. But that maybe is just because I was without it for a couple days!!

Thanks! I will soon know what you mean!!! Anyways, I kinda figured that maybe the techs at Uniden would check the speaker as well while it's there to prevent a return visit for servicing.

Since the speaker is glued to the front half of the case, if they replace the front half of the case, they probably replace it with one that has a speaker in it. Paul mentioned the difficulty in getting the speaker out of the old case and I doubt they'd want to spend the money (tech's time=tech's salary) to save a speaker that probably costs less than a buck.
