I would like to see close call though and configurable colors per service type or ad-hoc for any TG (kind of emulating the 396/996XT multi-color LCD). I would like to be able to set police dispatch to a blue background, for example.

I would also like to see the ability of setting service types specific to each favorite. That way I can disable public works in one favorite and have it available in another.

Unless it can already be done and I'm missing it, I wish that items could be cut and pasted amongst the favorites rather than just from the main database to favorites. I plan favorites out in advance as best as possible, but invariably, I will have a desire to make changes to favorites. So there are times that I wish I could take my well planned and sorted favorite system list, and add it to another system in the same favorite list, or a entirely different favorite list.

I agree there. That would make combining systems or seperating large trunked systems easier. It can be a hassle to either delete dozens of unwanted syatems or avoid dozens of systems to get the parts you want in a single favorite.

I would be happy if they just fixed some of the outstanding bugs. Especially having to turn on the radio id's each time I power on the radio.

People, what everyone is forgetting, this system is new. like all the others, when they came out they were not perfect, some still are not that is why they have firmware updates. It takes time. They have to research what is possible at the time and what is not. Everyone all have what they would like to see the little box do and what they would not like to see it do. This is why they have different models.Sorry there will not ever be the 1 perfect scanner ever built. Trust me I am sure that they the manufacturers have someone that reads the post and see what can be done. It takes times. One this is Put It In writeing to the manufactor. 2 Everything in life is a wait and see game. Everyone has a complaint about what it cannot do, I remember when RS came out with the 1st portable receiver in the 60's (a little black box with an antenna connect to your AM radio that took a 9 volt battery for $9.95) just to receive 1 channel at a time providing you had the right crystal to plug into the box.Look where you are today. It will happen it just takes time. For some of you stop complaining and wait and see. This is not a life and death thing, there are other things to worry about in life other they why won't a scanner do this or that.

My biggies are:

- Close-Call (which I understand is a hardware fix and therefore probably a different radio...HP-2?)

- Ability to properly delay for a couple of seconds after an iCall (Extreme feature - probably just a bug)

- Rework of the whole battery charging system...never had a radio that asks if you want to charge batteries

- Better sensitivity (my 396XT seems more sensitive when running side-by-side)

- Refinements in the User Interface involving recordings. Great feature but the on-radio interface is clunky.

- An integrated GPS unit or an external with a cleaner interface that doesn't require serial to USB.

- Relocation/rethink of the external jack setup. With all plugs in place the radio gets wide. Maybe have a single connector with a breakout connector.

Bluetooth and other hardware can't be added in a firmware update (what the OP was soliciting input for).

The ability to display "Finding control channel" likes its x96 cousins... maybe on the channel display line. Just for grins, I manually locked onto an out of range system in one of my favorites just to see what would show.... nothing different. If I didn't know better, I would think that the HP was happily scanning a quiet system. Apologies if this one has already been brought up or if I missed a way of doing this (if so, show me).

+1. Since adding an alkaline switch is out of the realm of this thread (not firmware), how about a setting where it can be told "Don't ask, don't charge"

I noticed Upman's present signature says "I think we'll release some new HomePatrol-1 firmware, soon."...
Is this statement old or a preview of coming attractions?

That would be nice as I don't leave the batteries in when I have mine plugged into the wall. It would also be nice not to REQUIRE batteries for some features when the HP1/e is running on electricity.

I've searched for this one but haven't seen it mentioned:

Being able to update the HP1/E from an Android device (either cell or tablet). Where this market has become so robust, I beleve this feature would do well and Uniden could easily charge a few bucks for an Android version of Sentinel.

Mine doesn't say anything about S.A.M.E codes, just to put in county names. So now do I put in the NWS S.A.M.E. codes?

When you put in the county, the HP-1 actually uses the SAME code for that county (more people know that they live in Tarrant County, TX than know that they live in FIPS area 048439...).

How about a field in Sentinel that would include the date of the last update for each system. This field would not necessarily have to transfer over to the HP-1, but it will enable us to do a quick lookup for any favorites that may need updating. I'm sure there are some users that may not have a lot of favorites, but in the Metropolitan DC area, we are in receiving range of two states, several federal systems, and DC. Included with those are many counties.

One other thought... it would be nice if the "Avoids" (lock outs) worked like they did on the previous models. Locking out a System/Group/Channel from scanning, but being able to scroll past it while manually advancing. This will enable locking out the chit-chat channels, but still easily getting to them when someone in an important conversation says "go to tac".

I also understand that this might not be a doable option since the HP holds the entire country, and manually advancing would require the user to have to go through everything.
