Yes fyrfyter10, I've selected all of the services I was interested in, but no joy. Thanks for the suggestion anyway.

My hp is doing the same almost like their are no freqs.in the unit and since I have nix computer, can't check it out!I had a friend his was also getting nought, found out it fell off the dash once and hit the antenna. There was a tiny piece of the copper wire broken off in the connection. He pulled it out and put on a newbie duckie and now at least his works.
I have been into the hobby since 1964,still have my very first radio thats works great. It is a KNIGHT 30-50MHZ,TUNEABLE that uses Vacum Tubes.I am very frushtrated over this uniden piece of crap, looking at the GSR.GOOD LUCK & GOD BLESS hope everything works out.

Nope, it was still deaf as a rock. My Pro-106 and PSR-500's were more sensitive without an antenna than the HP-1 was with a good aftermarket antenna on it. Off it went. I was going to send it off to Uniden again, but I have had enough bad dealings with Uniden's repair service in the past that I just decided to let it go and chalk it up as a lesson learned. I sold it to a guy for a cheap price and he's happy with it, judging by his emails.

I agree - I have really been disappointed with the HP-1 problems. I have been running my PSR-800 instead and it has given me renewed appreciation for how good that radio is (and my Pro-106). I hope I can get the HP-1 running without repair or return to the seller, but I am not feeling too hopeful. Too bad, great concept, crappy execution.

I spent many years as a two-way radio tech and the symptoms you describe sound like either a faulty connection between antenna and circuit board or a fried RF amplifier in the receiver. This can easily occur even by keying a 5 watt hand-held radio within several feet or the scanner. If you know of anybody who does 2-way radio work in your area, ask if they will throw a service monitor on that Uniden and measure it's actual sensitivity.

I have been corresponding with the seller - and I do want to find the problem, but I work alot of hours and didn't want to disturb you at late hours. I appreciate the offer to walk me through the problems, but as I said, I have been unavailable.

I bought an HP-1 brand new about a month ago. The first thing I discovered was that the antenna that comes with it is about useless, especially since I live in a very rural area...in connecting an exterior antenna, the ground shield absolutely must be 100% grounded properly to the SMA connector or you won't recieve anything...I am with Arwolf, the most common problem is antenna connection. As I am also a HAM who builds his own antennas, I can tell you that antenna impedance and grounding make all the difference in the world. If you can't get at least a 5 by 9 signal for NOAA weather radio, you are not receiving from your antenna at all. It is a good sign that you receive that nearby EMT traffic, it means that the discriminator is still functioning and receiving on the stub on the circuit board. I hope you used paypal...send it back and get your money back.

Thanks - you have provided very useful information - I couldn't understand why I was not receiving NOAA, yet there was some EMT traffic! I did purchase through Paypal (via BillMeLater), and am working with the seller to return the unit. He is going to fire it up when he receives it and is going to shoot a video opening the box to either prove me right or wrong before refunding my $$.
