Any ideas on when these might be available? According to the Uniden site, they are out of stock.

Skypilot----Be a little nicer to Paul...he's doing a great job since he's been with Uniden America Corporation hence why they are still in business even though they have more product lines then GRE. Don't get me wrong...it is sad about GRE closing up in this economy and I hear you loud and clear regarding audio. That is why I don't like handheld scanners period. They lack good audio and eat batteries fast but then again...how can you compare that to a $1,000 plus Motorola Walkie-Talkie. In other words...you can't have your cake and eat it too.

I currently use four Uniden speakers for my scanners and shortwave and like them alot. They installed very neatly in my set up as well.

The ouput power needs to be increased and the audio needs filtering. Scanners just have a cheap sound to them. You can hook any speaker you want to it and it will still sound bad. Perhaps someday all my complaining will reach someone who actually gives a crap but so far that hasn't happened.
Honest question... are you pre-deaf? I have Motorola HSN4039 speakers in my Jeep and if my scanner is turned up anymore than 1/4 of the way on the volume knob, it's way too loud. Saying that the Unidens don't put out enough from the jack is bunk.

I guess I'm naive :-( ....With the AUTO POWER OFF feature, do I have to keep running back into the radio room every 25 seconds to turn the speaker back on? The single frequency I monitor with my BC125AT is often silent for 30-45 minutes, when there's a new transmission, and the speaker is OFF, how do I hear it? I don't understand this? What point am I missing?

If it is like some FM transmitters that I tried out it turns itself back on when it gets an audio signal but you end up missing the first second or two of the transmission. Very annoying. The only FM transmitter that I ever found with audio that was any good had this feature and I took it back without even leaving the parking lot.

David described it perfectly... just think of it not as a power off, but more of a "sleep" mode. Audio to the speaker will automagically wake it up, but again as David descibed, there is a noticable chop at the beginning of waking up that is quite annoying to a lot of folks.

Will these be like the Radio Shack Amplified Speaker with the Auto power save circuitry where the speaker automatically powers off to save energy when it receives no audio signal for 25 seconds? I actually don't care for that, so I am hoping that the Uniden BC23A DOES NOT have that feature!

Also, will it has a red LED to show when the speaker is receiving power and/or signal? I do like that feature, but I suppose I could live without it.

Also, will the speaker cable disconnect from the speaker end, just like the Radio Shack, or is it permanently wired to that?
(1) Does anyone know how to castrate the BC23A so it won't shut itself off every 25 seconds? I monitor a single frequency 24/7, and this frequency is often inactive for 30-45 minute time segments! I need a BC23A to stay on 24/7!

(2) Does anyone know of an alternate 3"-4" 32 ohm BC125AT-suitable speaker? ....one that is either non-amplified, or amplified with a definite on/off switch?

Thank you :-)

Wow--awesome set-up my friend. This photo should be submitted to a magazine dedicated to our hobby.
Have a great holiday.

What does it use for power? I have a Homepatrol-1 will this work with it?

How is the sound quality on this speaker?

And I'd surely like to meet the engineer who thought that this feature was as a good idea :-)

Default Anybody tried the New Uniden BC23A External Amplified Speaker??

just got this?? do i need some special part from RS to make this work? Bought it from Amazon for $31.00 and plugged it up to a Cig Plug and got power and plugged the other end into HP (speaker/headphone labeled jack) and get nothing --

now I'm wondering if I need a special jack/ adapter from RS. I read the posts above and I'm not sure. thanks for any help...

I'm not sure if the speaker itself has a volume, but make sure the volume is up on the scanner. This is often something that is forgotten.

Troubleshoot by plugging the speaker into an iPod, phone etc. to see if it works that way.

Just some thoughts.

Happy Holidays

Default Unidens New Speaker Lineup

Sydney472,

I you look through some previous posts in this thread, it looks like it is a stereo plug, thus you should not need any sort of adapter to use this with the Home Patrol HP-1.

Jim

"The three speakers are BC7:7-Watt power handling; BC15: 15-Watts; BC20: 20-Watts; BC23A: 15-Watt power handling, 8-watt internal amplifier. All three have stereo plugs, so they are suitable for use with scanner headphone outputs or CB/Scanner/etc mono outputs......Thank you very much for the advance information on the Uniden Speakers. Will these be like the Radio Shack Amplified Speaker with the Auto power save circuitry where the speaker automatically powers off to save energy when it receives no audio signal for 25 seconds? I actually don't care for that, so I am hoping that the Uniden BC23A DOES NOT have that feature!.....Also, will it has a red LED to show when the speaker is receiving power and/or signal? I do like that feature, but I suppose I could live without it.....Also, will the speaker cable disconnect from the speaker end, just like the Radio Shack, or is it permanently wired to that.....Thank you for the details. Is the plug straight or 90 degree right angle?.....90 degrees. Cord is about 12 ft long. Signal is wired tip and base only (ring is unconnected)."
