I am pretty sure any GPS with a NEMA output will work. I made a portable GPS for my handheld using this http://www.parallax.com/Store/Sensors/CompassGPS/tabid/173/CategoryID/48/List/0/SortField/0/Level/a/ProductID/644/Default.aspx. And a couple of batteries.

I don't think Tom Tom is NEMA combatible, but can't say for sure. You can check the manual to verify. This thread may help. http://forums.radioreference.com/uniden-scanners/183055-usb-db9-cable-gps.html

In case you are doing a google search, the correct compatibility is NMEA 0183.
