A PDF manual is usually available for download or included in a CDROM. The PDF can then be printed out easily, if needed.

Charging terminals
CHARGING TERMINALS on the bottom of the radio so that it can be easily charged or powered just by dropping into a desktop or car charger.
I hate those cheap flimsy charging jacks now in use.
Stay with removable AA cells (rechargeable)

Kenwood NEXEDGE compliant
I have a BCD996T. A larger foot print would be nice
Removable faceplate kit that comparably priced with like kits for amateur radio 2M/440 transceivers
Documentation that does not require an "Easier to Read" version. Uniden documentation is harder to understand that some professional test equipment !

For me the best thing would be to be able to link the scanners together so when a scanner stops on a channel that channel then becomes locked out on the other scanners so they keep scanning, and if scanner 2 picks something up then that channel too gets locked out on the other scanners, once a channel clears they all unlock the channel.
I see many photos of you guys with multiple scanners.
Or so that if you have say 4 scanners all scanning seperate banks if one scanner stops on a channel the other scanners start scanning that bank minus the rx'ed channel, that way you would miss a lot less.
Oh and fleetsync / mdc1200 decoding
and i cant hear a thing anyone says cause the amp is so quite

Interesting & very useful idea :-)
See what happens when people start putting their heads together.
Hopefully, some of these suggestions make it into future versions.
Sadly, many of these good ideas won't eventuate unless a manufacturer produces a scanner powered by an android style, open source platform.
Now, hows that for an idea???

Most of these reference 396 / 996 series
- Option to revert to trunk system after alert on fire tone out. Many places only use conventional systems for paging then all other traffic is on a TRS.
- Voting scan
- Enough talkgroup memory to fit an entire system (like MPSCS).
- Carrier operated output / relay
- backlight for keypress and squelch (at same time)
- keep backlight alert color for duration of transmission
- drop in charger would be nice, doubt we'll ever see one
- keep the standard batteries, but work on improving runtime.
- home patrol style radio with wifi or Ethernet for streaming. Probably kinda far fetched...
- MDC1200 - isn't it open source now? I see it's usefulness dying off with all the TRS, but still would be nice.
- other digital modes would be nice, all I'm personally concerned about is P25 II, maybe Trbo.
- loose the propritary connectors - real usb only!
- keep style of the 996 for vehicle use. I can operate that without looking while driving. Try that with a touchscreen. The alert colors help too - don't have to look away from the road to see the color with your peripheral vision.
- I love the independent speaker / line outs. Keep it.

I would like the ability to transfer all of my current systems to the next high end spanner produced by Uniden. I would not like to have to go through each system one by one, and have to reenter all of the information. I'll be ready to buy it when it's released though. I can't wait to see what features Uniden is going to have included in the next model comparable to the 396/996 XT series.

wishful thinking...
Kenwood NEXEDGE compliant along with Trbo. I paid $500.00 for my 396XT and I would not mine paying a fair market value for a new scanner with either of or both of these in them! If they make it we will buy it!!!

I just did a google search for Uniden 170 and got a few hits. Came up with Uniden Bearcat bc 170. It's a desktop analog scanner and looks to be at the very least a decade old and probably even older.

alexkaczor, also a base unit like the 996xt would be awesome, either way I would be pleased what Uniden does. Just my own preference with a base unit, I am very pleased with my 996xt as a base scanner and wouldn't trade it for any of the competitions models.

Yeah. I would think they probably would make a base and handheld model around the same time. Hopefully
